yup, I was just waiting for all my cakes to finish, then I was going to grind the lot up and put into capsules. That said I was doing some reading around here (on aborts) and read something about grinding "helping" to reduce potency quicker. Is that true? Is it best to store dried whole (if you're not going to drop the whole lot ASAP

Yes. You should grind right before use, or as close to as possible. Oxygen is one of the enemies of psilocybin. The more surface area you create, the more your actives can oxidize.

tbh dunno, I'm just (mostly) following directions from "The Psilocybin Mushroom Bible" Haze & Mandrake. They advise doing pftek in (mason/jam) jars w/o lids, covering with foil and topping off with autoclave tape, in a cross. Inoculation is a syringe (spore/broth) to the four tape corners.
Regarding the shroom I isolated, from the pix would you say it's a cube?
thnx
If'n you mean this:

Looks like it from here, are you ready to try some and find out?
Are these nats? Very cool! I've got some of classics in the water tub now

I'm wondering if it's one of those things like gypsum...things that Stamits added 20 years ago because it just sounded good but that most TCs don't do now.
Yes the lids will hold pooling water without a cover.
Some filters may be hygrophobic but if you don't cover polyfil you're gonna have a bad time.
Is this from your experience?
I don't use foil and haven't for some time now, poly or mp tape. No difference in the resulting jars but I also used foil for many years.
I like to use foil when im not gonna use the jars immediately, so they stay dust free. I use unmod lids so i think foil helps a bit.

If you use 2 piece metal lids then they pool any water because the ring on the rim is the tallest part.
Some parts of the cooker or clave may have water dripping down where the steam is condensing during cool down and heat up and this could cause pooling obviously if it falls right on the jars.
Just depends on how the cookie crumbles for ya. I've definitely had soggy poly though and like to use a foil cover.

Yeah aside from the moldy grain it looks like a layer of mold on the entire top as well.
If it were only bacteria I would say you could top fruit the jar no problem, but anything with mold is done.

Yes, it looks perfectly normal. Oyster mycellium is very aggressive and grows right up the jar walls and onto the lid.

Interesting observation, I have totally stopped using foil because I see no difference in the resulting grain but that doesn't mean it's a one size fit all solution.
