I was a lurker and for many years and used these forums. I was and still am extremely passionate about mushroom growth and cultivation. I joined the army a few years ago and obviously haven't been active at all but I want to say...
I miss you all and I miss the trial and error or my various projects for years. I had some success but more failures. But I had fun and I had passion for my work. The community even blessed me with the old rusty white and another spore print I cant remember. I decided to login based on an conversation with a current peer and the nostalgia hit hard.. check out some of my old pictures and I wish I had an update for cultivation of the day of a monoculture I was working on in sub par conditions.

I miss it

So I've been having trouble accessing mushroommediaonline.com
Emailed in, and here's what I got back:
In the current climate, we are blocking all countries outside of North America. My apologies, I will let you know when that changes.
Managed to get on by connecting to Kansas on my VPN.
Just gotta see what works out cheaper, mail forwarding 500 unicorn bags or seeing if I can work something out with a UK stockist.

I just ran a bunch of birdseed. Prepped enough bags for two PC runs. The bags that sat for 5 hours waiting for the PC killed or completely stalled the agar wedges I dropped in. The bags that went directly into the PC colonized immediately.
So no... What happened to your grains is not good.

Eh hard to say. I've prepped rye grains and let them sit in the fridge for 2-3 days before PCing and they were totally fine, no problems colonizing. But a couple weeks is probably pushing it.

No problem. I know everybody has their own preferences on which grain to use, but I use rye and I find it to be really easy to prep. I boil a pot of water, wait for it to cool down to about 93 degrees Celsius, and then dump in my rye and a pinch of gypsum (obviously optional).
Stir, cover. Wait 20 mins, stir and cover again. Wait another 25 mins and then strain through a colander and run under cold tapwater to cool it down.
Shake and let it sit for about five minutes in the colander to drip any excess water. Then I load up my quart jars and add 1 tablespoon of extra water per jar. PC and they're ready to go. I find adding the extra tbsp of water at the end helps get the rye nice and fluffy in the PC.

Do you have any clumping of your rye? like any at all?

Spitballs quick rye prep is the Tek joze is referring to. No clumping issues.
I used it last year, it was pretty good, but I've gone back to traditional soak & prep method.
