So I have just started working with oats and they are kicking my ass.  One issue that seems to keep coming up is some nice white growth but a thin layer of kinda yellow fuzzys covering all visable grains.  No pic because can't see what I'm talking about with my camera.  Any thoughts if what that maybe or what could cause it overwet grains, dirty grains Idk.  Thanks for any help

How are you prepping your oats?

Quality of grain is always batch to batch and not grain specific. Not all oats are created equal.

I hard boil them till they're plump, use the pot lid do drain the water off hot till there are only a couple drips coming out, then toss for about 30 seconds to let water vapor off, load jars, pc.

I cook oats at 15 psi for 2 hours in a properly vented pc (about 1000' above sea level here).

Crackatoa’s easy oats is the only thing that works for me. Tried like 3 other teks before and all came out shitty. Perfect everytime with Crack’s method.

One day there will be a civil war between The Oat Party and The WBS Party. The other grains won't matter, and will all eventually join one of the two main parties.

There will be side battles between Team Parafilm and Team Cling Wrap, but that won't be a meaningful issue.

The Oat Party will be brave, pure, and valiant warriors.

But in the end, The WBS Party will be the victor.

I have yet to find a grain that wasn't great, if it was a quality batch, and it was prepped suitably.

No need for a war.

Which of the thousands of cultivars of oats are we talking about anyway???

That was my point. haha.

They're all just grasses.
Technically even corn is a grass. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poaceaec

Anyone ever grow cubes on grass? Not grass seed, not hay, not straw, but grass?

I went from oats to WBS.

Hay is as close as I've gotten. Without supplementation the flushes were shit anyway. See my journal.

1. did you wash and rinse them before cooking them?
2. does the "yellow fuzzy" happen before or only after the first shake?

edit:
my above post was meant to be a provocative joke, just in case that wasn't clear
