It's always the pretend hippies with too much dead shit on their accounts that end up cracking and spewing the most hate for queer folk.  I'm one of those lefty queers and there's plenty of right leaning conservatives in here, and yet we all get along just fine discussing cult... Then your pretend happy ass walks in here and just drops a bunch of hate that has nothing to do with the conversation because you disagree with a single ingredient in a sub.

I've known a thousand of you growing up in Oregon.  You're the burnouts that think it's cool to hang out in a McMenamins and talk loudly about what a great cultivator you are like the people paying too much for a shitty tuna sandwich and crappy beer care.  The second your fragile ego gets even slightly disagreed with, out comes this hate that's been festering just beneath the whole time.

I know how much your loneliness burns, and I don't care.

You earned it.

I use that. It's fine. The classic with the red cardinal on it. It's 16 dollars for 40 pounds.

Wash it 5 times (I use my PC without the lid), then soak 12 to 18 hours, drain, let dry a bit on a screen, and PC. While washing, that sand stuff sinks to the bottom, I dump it out. 4 full quart jars makes 7 quart jars of it (expands, plus leave room at top for shake.)

Last couple bags I got had almost none of that stuff. But did have a few peanuts. That's new. Plucked them out and fed to birds. Anyone know if peanuts are OK to leave?

Cool, I may give it a shot then.. but I'm still considering just getting millet.. I'm still planning on working my way through the rest of my oats, and I thought millet would be good for master jars while I'm doing that.. anything in particular I need to look for with the millet? I remember reading that you're supposed to use a particular color or something šŸ¤” I'm pretty sure it was golden millet..

Thanks for taking out the trash mushboy!

Now back to mush cult related stuff. Who here has removed the vent tube on their all American sterilizers? I’m doing a whole overhaul thing on mine and trying to decide if I should just remove it finally

Any millet will work just fine. Birdseed is a little more work but is mostly millet/milo and is usually 1/2 or less the price of just millet and also usually a lot more available. There are hundreds of types of millet and milletlike seeds. The stuff you are likely to find at a feed store is going to be "white prosso" or "red prosso", both of which work well. About $50 UDS per 50# bag is pretty standard.

I use Pennington birdseed faithfully or the farm and fleet brand . Cheepest grain locally by far and 1000x better than oats imo.
I follow mushboy 24hr wbs tek .
And get good results

Cool. Sounds like the price will probably make it a better choice to stick with the WBS I got and follow Nektar61's instructions. How long do you PC  WBS?

Edit- thanks culliganman360, I'll check check out that Tek. I'm sure it will answer my question about PC time ā²

Hi,

Do I really need a SAB if I inoculate Pf jars with the dry Verm layer + micropore tape and putting them in a sealed incubator, in a clean room that is already of still air?
Thanks!

Rotnpins bro it depends on how much u cooking if it’s just 7 jars i would do 1 1/2hr -2 hr
I use bags and pack my pc as tight as it gets and go for 3 1/2- 4 hr

@snakeeyes you don’t technically need a SAB but it’s highly recommended

I've never used just millet, but that WBS has a lot of millet in it. Give it a shot since you have it.

Does NOT need to be heated to prep. Just wash a few times, soak, then PC.

Don't need to remove anything from it (except the sand and maybe peanuts).

Some YouTube idiots say to pick out the whole sunflower seeds, but mycelium loves that, and sometimes it's the first thing colonized.

I should probably leave it in. Easier. I started taking it out when I was worried I'd end up biting it on the bottom of a shroom. But now I fillet the shrooms, slice off the bottom and toss it, so....

Probably shouldn't wash that WBS 5 times either. Washing out the "Bird-Kote" nutrients they add. Might be helpful micro-nutrients or something.

Culliganman360, how many times do you wash / strain Pennington's before soak?

I got like a 3 quart strainer I scoop the wbs and strain it with my hose untill the water runs off crystal clear .
Guessing I would say 2 min I run the water on the wbs

When I was running bulk i had a 5 gal bucket with holes drilled in the bottom and a screen placed inside the bucket to not loose any wbs . I would load the whole bucket with wbs and just rinse it that way. Easy af

Yes you do if you want decent success. The more things you skip the more things will likely go wrong. A tote you could build a SAB out of is a solid $12 USD investment and will take you about 10 minutes to build. Less time if you have a hole saw and are handy. Preppint PF cakes/jars is more difficult and time taking.

Short answer yes you do.

There is a growing belief that washing a lot is the move. P9 found he always got bacteria when he didn't rinse. There is a belief with some merit that plants make seed with mycotoxins built in, to inhibit myco grow on seeds.

There is an active thread exploring this:

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27382275

I personally believe a wash at the beginning of the soak/simmer (removing plant based mycotoxins) and a wash at the end (clear out fermenting toxins) is the move.

Though lately it hasn't had much. Probably supply chain things.
