That’s just what I remember reading when first starting, and what I briefly read now. Why do you like the 70s over 90?
I was going to get glass ones but had many people say not to

I'm switching over from glass to nalgene petris except for some storage uses. They're 100s as well, kind of like the room to work and expand cultures but I can see smaller ones being cool for multiple transfers and isolating.
Glass lasts until you break them (which I always do eventually) and they don't seal very well without adding film; when pouring a stack it's really hard to get even fills because they just aren't uniform.
I just wanted reusable plastic and found a place (Carolina Biological) that had them at the best price around so I went for it. Only downside is the scalpel scratches the bottom when you cut but I'm like so what.

I’m looking on amazon, ebay and other sites… You guys have any brands to recommend? Celltreats are about 120 but you can find a little cheaper, I just worry about quality and such.

idk the 90mm just feels huge, like i don’t need to let the myc grow out that much to take a transfer or drop a few wedges in jars or LC, so i feel like it’s a waste of agar for me. the 90mm plates do look sexy in hand but i like how easy the 70mm plates are. i’ve never used standard petris, i’ve only used the glass but i like em. i use them as no pours but they work poured too. some people just find them cumbersome but idk i don’t feel like they’re that difficult to work with. the plastic ones are probably better over all though

When I was running a lot of stuff I started using full size plates for spores and t1 or 2. Once I knew the next one was gonna be clean I would switch to a condiment cup. Grows out super quick and you can dice the agar up and dump it into a jar.

I currently have microscope envy so post some pics of what ya get, please.
Ya why don't you do comparative pics of the myc with and without. Someone was saying before its like "super way better man", and I'm like, I've been fine without it. Been meaning to do this myself, but haven't found it necessary lol.
Ide love to see the comparison, and anyone who could say that you need it and why so. Sure it might help. But do you need a crosswalk and a stop light to cross the road?

I just reached new level of retardation.. wanted to reuse lid from bacterial jar so i accidentally took my new master jar that coming nicely and took lid off for like 3 seconds.. in that 3 seconds my mind and stomach shrank to fucking chewing gum.. anyone done something stupid like that and got away with it? I can't count it for master jar, but maybe mushroom gods will be kind and give me something to clone. ( )

So is it safe to use empty jars to lift trivet for PC? Can I put glass right on bottom or do I need to put a towel or rubber or something between the jars holding up trivet and bottom of pot? Thanks for your time and knowledge

PE. Sorry for the noob question but I have about a inch of casing and it still doesn't look like it's pinning.
Should I just keep adding thin layers of casing?

Thanks in advance!

did you top layer or do a true casing after colonization? my top layer PE tubs looked like that for awhile before pinning. it’s just a slow variety. also could just be the pic but the surface looks like it could use a mist to me

true casing with verm, peat and gypsum. Last time I added too much casing the mycelium didn't break through.
I think I'll let it ride. I really don't mind blobs. Thanks Hazy.

I ran out of quart jars recently and thought it would be novel to noc up some 1/2 gallons. I didn't think it out, way too little space in the sab, knocked one over in there and did the second one open air. Same feeling in me gut, I got lucky and they fruited fine, pe in my sig came from one of those.

Has anyone tried adding a small layer of substrate after harvesting the first flush? Just curious.
Also, you think a little bit of QUALITY compost would be good adding to your substrate?
