lots of condensation, grains pressed against the glass, some inconsistent spots & there’s some spiky myc in one or two places as well. i’ve dealt with a lot of jars that look like that & they always end up being contam’d

Ok right on, these jars were made before I started using dryer oats and seems to work better. I had jars just like these that didn’t contam and had solid canopy’s… G2G is different though for sure.
I’m in the middle of learning Liquid Culture for the first time. Very confident in agar. You have an LC recipe?

500mL water, 1-2g LME
But SSLC seems to be a better method because it coats grains instead of just pooling at the bottom. For that it’s the same as above, but you also add 0.5-1g agar

oh yeah, i’ve gotten really solid flushes out of spawn that wasn’t 100%. i would definitely still spawn them. but yeah, G2G is a bit different.
i’ve been wanting to try SSLC too (here’s the recipe for that) but josex also has a killer LC tek.

You should try combining the SSLC with the Josex no mercy LC tek.

it’s such a badass way to do LC. im gonna use SSLC to noc up a bunch of used substrate & fruit in jars. got the sub PCing right now

Hey everyone, first post here:
I used an all-in-one bag to grow GTs. They grew nicely but after harvesting some of them turned dark grey/green like a zombie pretty quickly! I put them on the fan all day. Luckily 3 of them are still gold!
Are the dark ones bad? Safe to consume? Thanks for all advice!

just bruising. it’s a natural reaction to oxygen. forget the specific chemical that reacts but you’re totally chillin. my white varieties almost always turn a silvery blue after drying

I bet the main thing keeping people away from LCs actually isn't the agar work, making the LC, or the transfer.
Its making the SHIP/fucking port/tube/shit. and how to use part of the LC, without contaminating it. Its easy to make a jar LC, or a non-reusable syringe (plastics/environment). Making something thats easy to use, doesnt contam itself, and doesnt have to be OPENED, requires more practical skills than most modern people might have.. Hear me out.
Many people born in the 80s basically have holes in their skillset, they either dont know mechanical machines, or they dont know computers. Lots of self-sufficency skills may be lacking because of the school system and our society not being reliant on everyone being very self sufficent. These people would be intimidated by some of the constructions members here at the shroomery make. We aint all engineers.
LC's are superior in terms of colonization speed, so they are not something one should wilfully keep out of one's skillset. So its on the mycologist to learn it, he can't forego it and still claim to be fully competent or trained in all methods.
Me personally, I'm moving towards making a lot more LCs now that I finally after a long time have managed to reliably produce bags.
And im fucking guilty. Im a non mechanical born in the mid 80s person. I can change the tires of my car, check the oil, do some other basic stuff. But i can't fucking build the perfect LC vessel.
So i gotta learn it. God it never ends!
The goal does not have to directly aquire the huge yields, the goal is becoming competent, having knowledge, having technique from practise - becoming better at menial labour and doing things physically from A to Z - yourself. Then you will get good yields automatically.
And maybe being able to pass it on to others? THere are so many ways to capitalize and monetize your skills and your practise, in mycology.
tl;dr
end game of shroom production is bags and LCs (?)

i think SHIPS/crazy LC set ups are kinda antiquated at this point? i know people still use them but it seems like more & more people just free pour LC into whatever they are inoculating. why complicate it ya know?

I picked up a couple baby bottles to make LC in.. just going to flip the nipple upside down and put some silicone in the tip.. going to inoculate using josex poke method.. simple solution, hopefully it works.

I'm relatively capable at this hobby and I struggled with bags and LI. I gave it a real good try. So I stay with agar as my inoculation. I buy 20mm tall petris and pour super thick SAGAR plates. 1/4 of a plate mixed into a large bag of birdseed. 8 day colonization. And I get to see some clean growth confirmation on the surface of the plate.

I've had a lot of bacteria issues with bags like I'm sure a lot of people do.
The last item I'm changing up for next batch to fix this is stop free pouring into the bag top.
Ever since I started doing that a few years back things have been tough here and there.
So now I will be injecting all of my bags with a stupid syringe through a silicone injection port after inflating it while sealed.
Bags are huge and make a lot of turbulence in the laminar flow.

I've been having near zero contam rate. I clean the outside of the flowhood side of the bag, I tilt the bags slightly forward, hoping the turbulence heads downward... and I drop the 1/4 wedge from a few inches above. I think every move out. Clean the sealer well, think about its effect on the flow.
I failed hard at anything needle.
