are these ESS blobs or the weirdest looking pins I've ever seen? This is my 3rd and final attempt at this variety so I really hope it goes well but it doesn't look like it's going to cooperate....again

If you need to add vermiculite to your coir to get to field capacity, do you separate some coir for your top layer first, or do you just add the verm to all of it?

I just mix it in with it all so it's one homogeneous mix.

i don't like specks of vermiculite on my fruits so my top layer is coir only.

Iโve ran a few tubs of ess too and itโs never gone well. I think you gotta get the right section of myc or something. I usually got lots of aborts and small mutant type stuff.

I hope it goes well for you. Im still waiting to see if I can successfully get these pans to pin or not. The first pic is manure/straw/verm and looks like it's doing okay. The second is just coir and verm and it's not doing so hot lol

That's all I've gotten, to. I figured it was because I had dirty spawn but if you had the same issues it must just be a picky variety. I'm just hoping for even one fruit so I can get a couple swab sets! Guess I'll just have to see what cards I'm dealt

So looking at the mycelium in the tubs I notice it looks a little fluffy other than that why do you think they aren't doing well. How can you tell from those pics? They both look like they are(sry for wrong terms) colonizing the sub and going to pin soon. Just curiosity so I know why that doesn't look good I want to understand. Thanks for you time and knowledge sharing.

They're just...blobs. I don't know how else to describe it. They're irregularly shaped mushroom pins with no caps and no uniform shapes or regular growth...just mushroom blobs
blobs are common with PE and this variety, ESS, is PE x KSSS so blobs seem likely. I have to be close to the record for number of times a person has said blobs in a single post!

@crack I would really appreciate that! This is such a beautiful variety when it cooperates. Hopefully you can crack the ESS code
My ESS has been on one hell of a journey: I was gifted a pair of swabs a couple years ago, germinated one swab, cleaned it, traded away my last single swab before I successfully got fruits (stupid mistake), those grains went horribly bacterial but I had already tossed my plates , that tub didn't do anything. Thought I lost that variety for good. Found an old grain jar from that failed run almost 2 years later that I never cleaned out, dropped the one remaining grain to agar, got it clean and put to grain and this time all I got was aborts and weird mutations. Used YET ANOTHER colonized grain for this run and it ain't lookin too good...
This has all been the same culture, collectively taken out to probably T20ish lol
