you jsut need the thinnest plywood sheathing, right now $25 a sheet so not too bad considering you can dry $300 worth of grain on it !

Whats the idea of plywood? With a screen on top? The wood helps absorving the moisture?

Sorry, I was making a cheap joke about inflation, not trying to talk down about your technique. It does sound like a good option.

Yea the water just runs off and you can spread it out thin in the sun and wind. Also the pooling is absorbed.
This is the one I got https://www.homedepot.com/p/1-5-in-x-4-ft-x-8-ft-Hardwood-Plywood-Underlayment-Specialty-Panel-431178/203183010

Thanks. I went ahead and harvested them, which turned out to be a good move since my dehydrator probably couldn't handle any more.
One thing I did not expect with APEs is how much odor they put out while dehydrating. I get a slightly noticeable smell near the dehydrator from other cubes. But these APEs, good lord. My whole place smells like a dirty hobbit's gym locker.

I'm in a small apartment so my issue is space, the stacking would give me tons of space for drying.
Looking fookin expensive to build this thing from PVC though. £28 per layer gawwwd damn, and that's without the screen.
ADHD has me hyperfixated on this idea so I'll just go ahead and impulsively spend way too much money anyways

pvc isn't very strong anyway. You could weld up something like that out of steel for a few hundy. Maybe not in an apartment though.

I was in your boat a while back... the smell of grains was strong... filled the hallways...
Now I am a believer in birdseed/millet. No boiling to hydrate. No drying on racks. Easier to explain to neighbors why you have sacks of the shit.
Just saying... I'm so glad not to dry my grains anymore.

So I started watching sonic the hedgehog and it opens up on “mushroom planet” with a long ass Rube Goldberg machine made from a bunch of mushrooms species.

I know BRF tek can be done without a PC.
However what is the success or risk of contamination, out weight the cost of a PC, which atm is on sale here in Australia some machines are 499 down to 180. Presto is stuck at 300, the cheapest price i can find out here

If you're getting a PC just make sure it can go to at least 15psi, or whatever the metric equivalent is. Sterilizing BRF in a steam pot probably has the same success rate as doing so in a PC (or at least very close). I would be willing to bet that 95% of the failures with BRF come from a contaminated syringe.
I always have the mentality of 'buy once cry once'. A well maintained PC will last for years and is priceless in this hobby. Honestly, if prestos were $300 in the states I would have probably still bought one. love it

Thank you BigFoot for explaining and the advice. I have a wild spore print - plan to do print to agar with the loop then seperate the good myc from the contaminated agar plate to a new agar plate then, then agar chunks into the prepared substrate jars.

I was just told that only cubes grown on manure work for the 'tootsie roll' extraction process. That they are stronger than those grown on coir. Any thoughts on that?
