Not sure if this is a stupid question but does that mean something like this https://www.malibucompost.com/product-page/bu-s-blend-biodynamic-compost will work? I would make the link smaller but I don't want anyone to worry about where they're going. Would all the additives hurt?
I also actually live right near an area where they let horses free to take care of the vegetation. Would it be best to add it to a general compost pile or have it separate to age?
I've been interested in pans but still working getting comfortable with cubes, didn't want to take on too many things at once. It'd be cool to get some poop to age in the meantime though .

Wanted to edit with this quote^^ so I don't drown your question on the previous page.

So i heard cubes can benefit from light but are there any actives that absolutely require light and wont pin/mature without it?

Benefit Is a serious understatement. They will fruit, but will be seriously wonky. They "benefit" at earlier stages before fruiting.

Is ambient light enough, its the same as a mushroom growing under a tree’s shadow right?

Second attempt at PEs. Does timing look right for casing layer?

To me it looks like you're a little late for a casing layer, and that mycelium looks pretty thick which can be an indication of some sort of contamination goin on in there.

Edit: sorry, if you are referring to the pebbles on the surface, yeah those are just bruised blobs. My PE tubs always look gross like that. They do eventually mold, but I always got a nice second flush. Sorry Bigfoot. I was focused on the dicks, as usual.
It isn’t either, in my opinion. Just squat little chodes. I guess they are very blob like, but they formed a nice little cap and gills, so I say fruits. Are they PE? They definitely look good to eat though, regardless. Good job.

Do I rake out the blobs at this point and move on with second flush?

You can let them get bigger if you want or pull them out in an attempt to jumpstart the second flush. Those blobs are edible and in my experience stupidly powerful. If I get blobs I let them grow until they're about as soft as a ripe banana, harvest, dry and make them into chocolates

Ambient light is good enough if you’re just trying to grow some mushrooms. But if you’re trying to be efficient and maximize growth, direct lighting is crucial

What... i thought shroomery dogma entirely moved away from light being important in fruiting. I'll accept ambient light making a difference, but now we have to have direct lightning on the surface?
FOr cubes?

When did anyone move away from light being important? Makes a huge difference in my experience. And yeah I’m talking for cubes

What kind of light do you use? I have like 9/10 shoeboxes in a closet and have two normal watt LEDs on them. Not as direct as a grow light, enough?

I use a 100w equivalent, daylight LED bulb, but with my Nats I am trying a sunny room. A couple hours direct light in the morning, and good reflected light all day. I’m thinking they will like it.

I use 6500k LED light bars. They were like $70 for a pack of 6 on amazon. Several people on here use 6500k LED rope lights. The important thing is the Kelvin rating. 6500k is most similar to 'natural light' or however they phrase it but I imagine even 5000k would do just fine.
The biggest problem I can see from using a standard incandescent bulb would be the heat. Any light is better than no light but if you wanted to be as 'proper' as possible you'll want to find some 6500k lights

Theres a cartain lumen amount you need to hit. I am not sure what number it is per sqft but measuring LED in watts is nonsensical. Tube lights are best because of the spectrum. If you wanna go full overkill you can get a blue light. But again if you're not pounding out pounds per week a window is good.
I am drunk so not all facts may be factual.
