This seems like it would be more practical in front of a hood than in a SAB. And you would then have to use both swabs unless you wrap the other in sterile foil or somethin'. I like that method though

Burying the swab has worked every time, but it sucks using the whole thing. That’s where picking fibers off/burying them comes in.

I stopped having bacterial and mold issues when I stopped sliding the swabs out of the pack the way that they went in. Instead, I cut them close to the cotton and use tweezers to roll them and get em wet with agar before burying them in the plate. I use 9g LME, 7g agar and 500mL distilled water for my germination plates. I havent had a swab not germinate in more than a year.

I do prefer prints over swabs any day though.

Heyo, does anyone know where to score a presto 23qt inside of the EU ? I would buy one from ebay but those are all from the us or england, after witch i would pay a shitton of fees to the customs man.

It's really annoying buying American products in Europe. Especially the more east you go. Everything is being resold by dealers and once it gets into my hands, it's been sold like 5 times. A presto costs 500 USD here. That's already ridiculous enough, but once you calculate the minimum wage where i am from, it's realistically like 1000 USD. It's so fucking annoying.

Yeah it sucks. Although I've scored mine off eBay from like 150€. Guess I got super lucky there?

I am absolutely baffled by the prices y'all pay to import very basic pressure canners.  Is the vast majority due to import taxes?  Is there anyway you could say have a friend in the states ship you a "free gift" of a pressure canner and not face steep taxes?

No, i am pretty sure you'd still have to pay import tax. My friend was in Atlanta and bought a camera there. You know, as you do. When he was coming back, they checked his luggage, he had to pay tax. It's retardet. But it makes a bit of sense, it's to preserve the economy of the country, so people buy from within and dont import everything. It's like that with a lot of goods that aren't manufactured in your country or at least eu. It really baffles me how it is possible that my 9l PC cost more than the presto.

Dude even when you cut into a q-tip, its still a hassle. And you fuck the thing up real easily. Prints are better. Just admit it, get the cotton out of your ear, heh heh HEH. q-tips.

anyhow, im proud to bring a positive update on bags
been learning bag tricks from sandman420

now i got 1 corn bag, and 4 bags of straw colonizing

and they are not even sealed. just sitting in a tote post inoculation.

the new trick im using that i will have to rescind, if they contam,
is that I dont seal them, I just tie a bowstring around them pre and post inoculation, and then immediatly after agar transfer to bag,
i put them in a tote

would post picture but its just 5 bags in a box:jesusmagic:

if its gonna work now, i have to say, it was a trip to learn bags

Swabs are handy for mushrooms that don't eject. I see no point otherwise.

I did a spore suspension in a syringe.
How long do I have to wait before inoculation?
As I understand it, it takes time for the spores to wake up.
Or is it possible to inoculate the grain immediately after making a suspension syringe?

I've heard of people waiting a day for the spores to hydrate. Not sure if it's really necessary.

I just heard the same thing.
I do not know whether this is really the case or not.

Is it worth making LC instead of a bunch of agar?

If you’re good with sterile technique then yes.

Lc is by far the fastest easiest way to produce a ton of spawn for the same culture.

Now that it's getting warmer, I want to start using a fan in the room I grow in... but I've read a couple posts where people have mentioned  spreading mold spores because one of their tubs got mold and then the fan spread it through their house... is this something I should be concerned about? Should I move my tubs to a room that won't have a fan running? Or were those posts "worst case scenario" type situations?

What kind of grain are you planning to inoculate? I'd stick to BRF if you're working with spore syringes. I don't see any reason you couldn't use them right away unless your spores are old or past their prime and would benefit from some hydration.
