I find blobs come off pretty easily most of the time with the twisting like good old crack said. Sometimes when they are really small and carpeted I just sorta rub my hand against them and they come right off.

How should I time the casing on my next attempt? Do I wait until surface is colonized? I have zero experience with casing so not sure what indicators to watch for.

no blobs but ringing the stupid question bell yet again........
I went to re hydrate 2 mini tubs and had several large fruits and pins on side and bottom.
First I assume they are viable munchies as they had some blue and this leads to question on how far does the good stuff go into the sub/mycelium ?
On the topic of side pins I thought at first the were just an aspect of using tubs but a recent video led me to think "random light" is the issue.
I really do not want to use liners as they are a PIA so the idea from video was to paint the bottom add sides of tubs to block light, some of the video was just ok but this idea seems interesting.
Thoughts.....practical experience......?

Painting the sides doesnโt work. Itโs not light causing side pins, but rather the microclimate that forms as the sub shrinks and pulls away from the walls. I used to try and go liner less, but since using liners, my pinsets have improved, plus harvesting and clean up is a breeze.

Case at 80-100% colonization. They are viable and some day you can make tea from spawn and trip. Painting your tub black ain't going to do shit. It's not light, as your sub shrinks it separates from the tub creating a perfect microclimate for shrooms to grow. That's why a liner works, it pulls away from the tub as the substrate shrinks.

I'd expect it's been done countless times, I'd just never heard of it so wanted to share. It was the 'chopstick' aspect I thought was worth sharing in particular, not jamming swabs into plates. A lot better than asking my gf for er tweezers and her getting mad at me for scorching them lol. And yeah it's worked fine for me, getting clean germ plates with it right now.
That's why I said that I don't think it's been properly written up as a TEK. You can be the first to do it, would definitely help a lot of people.

ding ding the bell tolls again...
does adding a casing layer to a tub help begin fruiting or just hold moisture thru the normal process?
I will look at all the info I get, I bet someone makes a liner for something that would fit a shoebox...

Except in London and California. lol I forget and am always surprised when they ask if I want a bag and then ring it up. At least they are usually nicer bags than what they give you for free around here.

If a few European countries it is illegal to give out free grocery bags. They usually have some sort of symbolic price. But i think it was made so people would bring their own.

Plain trashbags is what I use and they work like a charm, no matter if see through or black. The size doesn't matter either, just put it in your SB, distribute your sub so it fills out every nook and cranny and then trim it when done mixing the spawn.

It doesn't really help to strat fruiting, the mycelium does it when it's ready, but it definitely helps the mushrooms since it provides extra moisture/water.

in my experience the top layer/casing encourages pinning on the surface of the sub by creating optimal conditions for fruiting there, but itโs not gonna make it start fruiting. like ankh said, that happens when it happens

It amazes me that mushrooms' grow in my lawn overnight but when I want them to grow they take forever.....lol
The tubs I added casing to today are very well colonized so I will do a hurry up and wait dance.
Was hoping the "special bag" had more of a square bottom to help it form to the tub and make it even thickness, I will try a store bag next week and the sample I get and post results.
Hey Rev how big is the glass jar in your picture?

Crack you should definitely write up that bottle. It took me forever to find an older write up a while back and then another chunk of time figuring out what the parts were called and finding them on Amazon.
Those aspirating bottles or whatever theyโre called are awesome for lc.

Hey maybe a little bit off topic but i am curious if anyone else struggles with this.
I have been growing for about 5 years now with a 1 year hiatus (is that how you spell it?). I say this, because at this point one would expect that i wouldnt be in the mania phase anymore with mushrooms.
I have this problem of over checking my shit. I check on plates legitimitely at least 10 times a day. I will take a jar of spawn into bed before going to sleep and shine on it with a flash light and inspect every single kernel of grain and other maniac shit like that. Contrary to popular believe, i don't think this is really harmfull for the culture, but i do have a problem with over shaking. I see people who shake their spawn after like 10 days and that is impossible for me . I always shake to early because I kind of have no self control. I have learned to seal up monos with tape to make sure I don't crack the lid 30 times a day as to not fuck with the Rh and whatnot.
Does anyone have this to such an obsessive extent ? Any hacks on dealing with it ? I actually feel like it's hurting me mentally a little bit, because I cannot just sit in peace if I know there are cultures to be inspected
I also have a bit of a problem of buying supplies. I constantly browse second hand stores for PCs etc. When i see a nice plastic tote on sale, i cannot ressist. I have, for my needs, about 5 times as many totes as i actually need

Checking compulsions are often rooted in intrusive thoughts that share an exaggerated fear of uncertainty.
The chattering monkey-mind can go haywire! Becoming very aware of the urge can help.
I like to give that inner-voice a name, so whenever it pops up I notice it's not really me.
A fun name - such as Banjo, Zappa, Churn, Dawdle, Squeal, Quirk, Gawker, or Flinch.
When I hear the voice in my head urging me to CHECK, I realize it's my ol' buddy.
I remind myself to not feed the beast - as that will only make it stronger.
