Yeah too full will fuck ya. I load my jars with 500-600 and add 100 when I G2G. Yeah, the quick shake will help with clumping. I prefer a standard oat Tek over the no prep but I have used both successfully.

I was telling this newer guy about g2g and he gets super excited and goes to try it. Then he says hey how do you get the colonized grain mixed in so well?
Then I get a picture of a jar filled with a normal amount of grain, but then to the brim with colonized grain on top

Dumb question that I know the answer but I want to get some confirmation: I have 2 jars that are ready to spawn but one jar has 3 uncolonized grains stuck to the class about an inch above the top of the grains. Everything is colonized except these 3 millets. Good to go?

Dude, i am pretty sure 3 millets ain't gonna fuck you over too bad . I have seen people spawn 85% jars with success.
The full jars is what kinda sucks about no preps. After a while you get a good idea of how much the grain will expand, but at first i always ended with my shit being way too full.
The only way to mix even is to kinda shake in really tiny strokes in a high frequency, if you know what I mean. Really fucking straining to do for a lot of jars.

Open the jar and remove them before banging/shaking. Easy as pie.

Question, if you see literally one housand ants swarming the ground where you dug down grainspawn or a colonized substrate, is it good game? Finito?
Im seeing outside growing for the first time this year, where im truly working with stuff in the ground/lawn/soil.
And the pest aspect is just..!!! rage inducing!
how to deal with the ants
Ive made a deal with the pica pica and the crows now, they dont pick at the sites anymore, they get their own meals now. Earthworms and other singular insects ive given up.< They probably matter less. Also card board helps alot against aerial invaders.
But the competing ant collective!

You know I was thinking the other day I want to start g2g'ing consistent amounts for consistent colonization (mostly for gourmets), and thought about how I'd do it. I saw a spoodle being used in some cases, but then thought a scale would be sweet, but clunky. Then it occurred to me that I could cut out a scale sized hole in my table, mount it underneath and install the LCD screen similarly, so that I could just tare a bag then pour the weight I want, and it wouldn't be in my way ever or push my bags over the filter face.

Ants tend to invade beds that don't have sufficient humidity. I'd drown the spot once a day until they leave perhaps.

Drowning the bed is not harmful or counter productive to the functioning of the mycelium in the bed? they just bounce back no matter how much you soak? Ive seen a soaked spot dry out in half a day, this week.
There must be smells that repel ants, something they dont like
https://pestpointers.com/scents-that-ants-hate-and-how-to-use-them/
ill start soaking heavy, and leaving out deterring smells

I can't speak to how this works in a mushroom-related setting, but my family has always used cinnamon powder to deter ants, both indoors and out. If you sprinkle a barrier of cinnamon around whatever you're protecting, the ants hate walking through the powder and it also seems to fuck with their sense of smell.

Dude just buy an ant eater, where's the problem. If you wanna do this shit right, you can't be stingy.
Grandma also always used cinnamon, but I feel like thats more of folks tale no? Maybe some commercial products would be better.

You could also try Metarhizium mold which is an insect pathogen. I'm not sure about the efficiacy. Might just work for some species, idk.

Finally, a PERSON with VISION.
But, you repeat my first reaction, cause my first response was to introduce the fungal ant predator "ophiocordyceps unilateralis" to the garden.
Then reality, like a empty bong, hit me hard. First I realized that people dont have a spore print of this species, then I guess i wouldnt fit cold climates regardless.
But yeah, thats also a great idea, Dendro. Look for ways to attract something that preys on ants.
But i Wouldnt want something that just regulates them, I want something that makes them go extinct in the local area, a predator that will scale up until there's nothing left.

Splenda (sucralose) Kills many types of ants. They eat it but can’t digest it.

I'm sure there are multiple posts about this but my search abilities are failing me. Can overly hydrated substrate cause trich at a higher rate than normal? Possibly in conjunction with lack of fae?

I definitely think overly wet sub and low FAE could help bacteria thrive and weaken mycelium. Either of these effects could allow trich to get a foot hold
