Ive never heard of people hunting for this species, neither locally nor internationally, not europe or in scandinavia
so where is the credentials that its active
Psilocybe subcoprophila people know about, but its considered gross because it usually pins right outta turds. its also weak i've heard
Hispanica is also "supposedly" active but very few people have ever tried it. And those that did didn't feel anything.

i have 15x miraculix tests on hand since monday, and enough dried matter to test, and more pins (!) from the DECEMEBER shoebox that I saw today, so i'll have enough to do a miraculix and eat a gram or two myself.
this weekend for sure, my beloved shroomery, we will have everything:
-pictures of the collection -microscopy -dna test - user report - miraculix test
They are also spawned outside to beds this year, so we'll see more of em later. i'll finalize my findings, and ask shroomery to update its psilocybe firmetaria page with pictures from my grow, including the sequence, and the microscopy by alan and peter.
i care deeply about the shroomery and growing, im glad to be able to give something remotely scientific and documentative back to shroomery, which I owe my life to in many ways

A question or two about substrate depth in a shoebox grow .
How thick is optimal?
My 2 cents is this. Try different depths. For me, a lot of the fun of cultivation is to observe how changing one variable influences the outcome.
I ended up settling on 2 inches or 2.5 inches because that worked best for my materials, procedures, and conditions. It consistently puzzled me how much good success I had using these thin layers - yet my trays often failed in the 3 inches or more range. I'm no expert and I'm sure there was a reason (more heat is generated with thicker layers).
Especially for beginners, I think trying thin layers is wise to try alongside thicker ones.

A genuine shout-out to the people who volunteer to test out batches and the activity of new species. Wouldn't wannabe the guy who first tried semilanceata and thought he needed to take as much as with cubes .
I am so extremely paranoid of doing too much accidentaly. I knew a guy who snorted a regular sized line of o-pce thinking it was ketamine. For those who don't know o-pce is active somewhere around 2mg. Wich means if you do a 1inch line let's say, you go bye bye for a few days.
Also, as far as we exotics go, my favorite is pastys Zap grow, those look so fucking cool.

One of these shoeboxes was spawned 6 weeks ago. The other 4 weeks ago. Neither one has really changed much in the past couple of weeks. I don’t see any signs of contam and they both still smell mushroomy. What are the odds that these ever produce any fruits?

That's a bummer. On the other hand: congrats on your fimetaria grow! Looks like you're the first to ever grow them
Keep up the good work!

What temperature are you at? And more FAE might be in order.

Thanks…I had the FAE upped for about a week, but then I snapped the lid back on because the TEK I used (ShaperDreaming’s) said to just leave it on through the whole grow. I’ll try upping it again.
The room is at 70F. Is there any point in misting after knots have formed?

Misting is good idea if its dry, you want small droplets in the surface so they evaporate and make it pin.
I would say your tubs are dry, because of the surface you can only see a little condensation on the walls, i think there should be more, so maybe you have too much FAE.
Is always good imo to not do nothing if the tub is not dry af or too wet, maybe you have been changing conditions it a bit too much.

Dumb question for all: Micropore tape vs Synthetic Filter Disk vs those round sticker SFDs Which one allows the most fresh air exchange while preventing moisture loss?
As I am writing this, I figured a test for the water loss. I could make several modified jar lids with each. Then half fill jars with water to a marked line and monitor evaporation.
Any suggestions for testing FAE, though?

I think for the water evaporation you would be better off filling jars with the same volume (by weight) of hydrated grains as you would normally do for spawn since the grains will have the ability to hold and retain moisture better than just a jar of water
Take the dry weight of the grain (x), hydrate, take the wet weight (y) and calculate the water content of the grains [(y/x)-1]=z
Once you know that, fill each jar with the same weight of hydrated grains and let sit for 10 days. Re-weigh the grains (this would be a lot easier if you had the tare weight of each jar/filter ahead of time). Take the *new* grain weight after 10 days (w) and figure out percent loss per day of different filter types by subtracting it from z and dividing by 10. (z-[(w/x)-1])/10= % lost per day over 10 days.
Also, feel free to double check my math. I have the brain of an engineer but the computation skills of a 5 year old that found their parents weed brownies
I'm stumped on a method of testing FAE though

Fair point, Foot. That would probably be a better test for grain jars.
My goal is actually to see what would be best to use to cover tub holes to allow FAE for fruiting high FAE demanding varieties like Tamps, lions mane and oysters in my super dry environment. I have had some success so far, but I am trying to improve results with more air exchange while keeping up hydration in my very dry environment. Ideally, without constant misting. I am thinking more bottom holes in a Pasty EZ-dial with one of these over the bottom holes.
So I guess I could use your idea but with hydrated, uninoculated substrate and weight to determine which loses the least water. But I am still stuck on determining how much air exchange is happening.
I guess, I can build some of each and run test grows. That is gonna take a minute, though.

Can I hear a few ideas for tools to assist mowing down canopies. I've been using a long thin kitchen knife, but it is a tad awkward in the middle of the sub. (normal sized mono)
Electric knife... cordless? electric pruning trimmer?
Whats used in larger scale farms?
