i use an insulated cooler. 2 bricks [eco-bliss only] (about1300mg) plus 4 qts verms. 7 times coir wight in mL. Sometime gotta add more verm to get FC.
Also have a 110-qt igloo where I do 4 bricks, but only cause I can't handle more water weight than that.

Should I fruit these PE shoeboxes? I'm supposed to keep casing until I see knots but I'm almost to the top of the shoebox.

Thanks in advance!

How do you fruit your shoeboxes? What will you change about the conditions?

Take off the lids and place them in a mono.
Thanks again in advance!

As I understand the purpose of multiple casing layers is to get the substrate to colonize evenly and it looks like you've done that. Send it and reap the penises of your labors!

So you stick the SFD on the TOP of the lid, and RTV around the edge? THEN you also do the same on the underside of the lid as well, including the RTV?
Have you noticed any difference since adding the second SFD on the underside?

Why does it seem that everyone on here likes to let their caps open up all the way? I personally can't stand the 'wide open' caps. Unfortunately I've been harvesting a lot of spores lately so that's how all of mine are and they just make the bags of dried fruits so dirty/messy/ugly and i can't imagine chomping on an open cap full of gills and spores is remotely enjoyable. Dried fruits that resemble a golfball on a tee are so much cleaner, neater and aesthetically pleasing.
Sorry, bigfoots had a few brews and wanted to rant for a minute. I'll step off my soapbox for now but this is a hill I could peacefully take my last breath on

I had terrible luck with PE. Blob city every time, so I switched to APE and Melmaks. Good luck though. I second what Bigfoot says. Fruit that shit.

As far as open, fully matured caps are concerned, I only let them go that far if I need to print them. I know you may get a few more grams by letting them mature fully, but I hate having spores all over my fruits. They are so bitter tasting and the darkness does not help bag appeal at all.

did you try casing? lol! shrooms are bitter its not the spores. thats visual appeal. for best taste dry freshest fruits at high temps as quickly as possible. bitter... gotta go though it to get to it. this is a sacred medicine not a trip to Disneyland

Haha nice, put it on the mantle at Christmas as a kind of mushy snowglobe. You could put little plastic Christmas trees and snowmen in there

Fill it with epoxy! Nah i guess it would still dry out and shrink. Maybe open the jar and let it dry out then epoxy it. Probably sell it on etsy for $300.

shinear said: so "what I learned from tis page"
1.) that a scientific paper is somewhat hard to read but simply said his point is that, "if you isolate a good strain, keep it alive" as going back to spores it will always produce a random result making it necessary to re isolate as nature has built in a mechanism to keep sameness from happening, basically similar to people, boys + girl = diversity of outcome. This diversity will happen any time 2 compatible spores are used as spore compatibility precludes 2 identical spores reproducing.
2.) there is no consensus on substrate materials or preparation other than, buy quality ingredients or master mix and test for proper field capacity no matter what or how you use it.
3.) Trichoderma may be present in the area that sold your ingredients so it should be addressed. This assumes the trich you mentioned is a mold not "crotchrott" that I think may be similar....
Keep in mind I just did all this to say "crotchrott" on the web so this will pop up anytime it is searched for...
Refering to the fungi sexes paper? Nice summary of us

Gourmet seems to be pretty dead so
So I've never really cultivated gourmet ones except colonize jars, be lazy, and have mushrooms sprout out straight from the grains.
What I have right now is some very resilient King Oyster mycelium. I got a full QT and a plate good for more transfer, and a bunch of oats.
I have never made bags, although I did buy some that I can test out. I'm just paranoid about them melting, but I got the proper stuff for my 23qt Presto.
I was thinking about getting coffee grains from a nearby shop, but apparently King Oysters do not like that.
1- What is the cheapest/easiest substrate for King Oyster?
2- What does it's pasteurization requirements look like.
3- Monotubs vs Buckets vs Hanging bags? I guess since I have bags I will start with those, just don't know what to fill them up with. One QT grain jar per bag, correct?
4- I know the tub process better, and that seems easier for me to do with my setups. Is it just a case of bucket teking sawdust?
Thanks y'all!

Lol, that's quiet brilliant actually. This does make me sad though.. there is a clear pattern emerging. Whenever I try really hard, i see green. When I try random leftover coco into a shitty looking spawn jar, it works out. I guess that kinda proves the number one rule... Don't fuck with the mushies
