Should I add silicone around the edge of the SFD as well? Or is putting it on the bottom and sticking it to the lid enough?

I put it under, around the edges, and over a little bit even, carful not to cover the hole.

* I also find that smearing it around the edges so it smooths out makes it less likely to come up after time. Keep an eye on them because ime they are bound to have leakes or holes occur, which are easily repaired. Big problem I always had was my foil sticking to the Silicone after a cycle... Not a huge problem. But wares down the silicone relatively quickly by picking it off in small pieces.

But waittttt. Why does that "sfd" look shiny by the silicone..? Is that one of the stickers..?

Making my first SFD lids, used polyfil too long. What’s your favorite size hole for SFDs, seems like people have different opinions. It’s as simple as cutting the hole, using a little RTV silicone and making sure the SFD is fully secure?

I have precut ones but will be cutting my full SFDs into smaller ones, from a trusted shroomery vendor.

I just use entire SFDs as a lid, too lazy to go about cutting holes and sealing them. They make wide-mouth SFDs, so I just plop one on and put a band over it. Don't even bother with foil over it in the PC either. Works perfectly fine every time!

I'm the same, but at a time I could only afford 10 or 20 discs, which I had to split between a couple hundred jars. Now I have plenty of discs! And I use bags so I barely use them lol

I like the stickers too. Silicone goes on the top, around the edge.

Ohhhh… So the individual cut ones come with adhesive around the edge, you just stick them down normally and THEN use RTV around the edge? That’s a lot easier and I feel dumb.

What's the reason you are so desperate to use silicone where you don't need it?

Maby I’m just confused. Whenever I read about making SFD lids it always involved RTV Silicone. I’m now assuming it’s only needed when you cut apart full SFDs into smaller ones?

Will the adhesive that comes on the smaller SFDs hold up in pressure cookers?

Buy these and stick them on. Yes they survive PC no problem.

After a while, those start to come off. That's why I started using silicone on mine. Also, trust issues. I don't trust the adhesive glue on those to be of the same quality control and some batches will out/under perform others. Grain is the very last step in being careful and getting past contamination. Why fuck around and roll the dice when you can use a 25 cents worth of RTV for some peace of mind pre caution? I'd be pissed if the tops of my jars started turning green.

Fun fact: I use those stickers on the underside of the my lids too. Trust issues...

Thanks for the insight into your neuroses. 1 self adhesive one with no silicone works fine out here in the real world.

I'm happy that they're working for you as is. It bums me out when anyone loses time and material doing what we all enjoy. I used to also just stick them on the lids with no silicone and I lost 9 jars of wheat in the PC because all of the stickers came off. I've been RTV'ing my sticker sfd's ever since. Maybe it was a bad batch. Nothing is perfect... out here in the real world.

Yeah, I used that picture as the background when I made the avatar. The art is very similar to IM's album art but I don't think that the pic actually had any ties to them. A few friends and I has an infected mushroom play list that we synced to the movie Apocalypto. We'd get trippy and watch that movie with volume just high enough to that you could only really hear the sound effects. The whole movie is subtitled so it didn't really matter but it was cool to watch the scenes change with the music.

Talking bout lids.. i really recommend polyfil used for aquariums. It seems much finer than the polyfil I've found in pillows and comes in a sheet Wich makes it really easy to work with. You can tear off little squares and make these perfect balls with it l.

So I've been back to growing after a long hiatus. I've got my agar going, and my first batch of jars is almost ready for the tub.

These were done via g2g. I haven't tried LI in a while, but have also been keeping it safe and simple for the first grow in a while.

Is LI of a full agar plate in sterilized water that was vigorously shaken the best option for making more jars nowadays?

Also, for Eco Earth coir bricks (let's assume 650g): if I only use coir, how much boiling water. Is it also true that vermiculite and gypsum are contamination vectors because they are harder to "pasteurize".

I've always been a bucket tecker, but I feel like too many of my tubs werent full spongy mycelial masses.

ALSO: any recommendations for a USB/wireless microscope with photo/video/maybe even timelapse?

Idk much about machine stuff but I was told fans can accumulate dust when they aren’t used and even that slight weight can unbalance the fan and stress the motor. This was about hvac but could be related.
