I think for $85 I could get a gallon of moonshine lol. Things did go pretty damn crazy though so as crazy as that price is it's understandable...sorta

bigfootscreepyuncl said: Well I finally made the same mistake I laugh at other people for making. I misted one of my shoeboxes with iso because I noticed a pin popped up and it was looking dry. The pin is now dark blue and I feel like a moron lol.
I'll be surprised if I get anything from these tubs anyway - spawned on 2/27 and I've struggled to maintain half decent surface conditions with them from the start so they've dried out a couple times
One of the things that has taken me the longest to get a feeling for in this hobby is the relationship between coir hydration and maintaining surface conditions. I feel its not well communicated in beginner teks. Only now do i see that my surface gets scorched and unevenly dried when I had too dry of coir to start with. Its not easy! coir varies. How one vents their monos differs if the coir is dry or wet.
Not saying you don't know all of this, its just proven to be a long road for me.
This is very true.
There’s a huge range of hydration that will work and I didn’t realize up til fairly recently how much difference a tiny bit more water can make. I had been having good results but having to mist once every day or two which I thought was just because it’s really dry here. Then I figured out if I add a little more water itll maintain perfect conditions and I won’t have to touch it from spawn to harvest.

Consolidating causes some species to stall (cubes IME). Nats don't really seem to give a fuck so far so I've got some jars from last October I'm sending to bulk this week, just to see how they do. Every time I shake them they're like "what else you got?" and they recover immediately.

Is breathing this shit in harmful?
I remember the first time I grew, I had my bags in my closet when fruiting, and I was very sick during that time, like a bad chest cold. Don’t know if this is related.
The space I’m living in now has 2 practical locations: my closet in my bedroom, and a space right when you walk in. Obviously I would prefer to have it in the closet.
Can I get sick from breathing this in? Running rye grain, B+ and substrate from shroom supply, but gonna have a batch with coir soon too.

Breathing what in? Cubensis spores? I think an allergy to them is possible but rare. They are not pathogenic though. Certain mold spores in a high enough concentration can be very harmful, but healthy tubs of mushrooms growing pose no health threat that I know of. Perhaps you had bronchitis at the time and the correlation is not causative. Someone recently posted a similar query and it was discussed weather the knowledge of fungus and spores could cause a psychosomatic allergen response in some, similar to anxiety hives that present in some people after a perceived exposure to a contaminate or know allergen. I find it interesting that this is a common question and fear.

Thanks for your input. I might try running a fan with a nice filter in the area, everything would be fully colonized already so I’m not too concerned about still air. I’m paranoid about mold from rotting cakes, or spores. I might move my bedroom into the living room for a few weeks, but it gets very bright in there and if anybody popped by it would look kinda strange seeing as I’m the only person who lives here. Not as strange as a bunch of mycelium in the door way I guess.

my bronchial health is fine and i am nuts enough to think of them as babies and bring many pinned tubs into the bedroom so we can keep each other company.

Great to know, thanks. I will be installing a light fixture in my closet this weekend, and moving my robe and jackets to a different closet for a bit.

Some people are more sensitive than others but it is not a good idea to live in a big mushroom farm full time.
Breathing anything small is irritating and harmful to your lungs. Spores are small.
There are molds that can be a problem for sensitive people and even dangerous rare molds that can make you sick. Normally it's not a big deal but if you have cancer or aids or something it may be a good idea to do invitro stuff and wear a mask around mold and what not.
Harvest before sporulation things like that. Grow penis envy little to no spores in the air.

Hi guys,
I cooked up some whole oats, dried, and have them in my jars ready to PC. I wont have a chance to PC until tomorrow. Do I need to throw them in the fridge overnight or are they ok at room temperature til tomorrow?
Thanks

If your pressure cooker is clean you might lock the jars in it until the time comes. Room temp is not a killer if there are minimal to no contams in the air around the jars

There are a lot of air purifiers at various price levels. If you are running tubs in your closet using a purifier in the bedroom couldn't hurt.
I think that it was AKA that said he put a furnace filter on a box fan and was amazed at the amount of crap that got caught in the filter. So as long as you are not moving a lot of air in the closet, I can't see it doing any harm.

The sweet spot for me has been right where the coir switches from medium brown to dark brown. I now can see it immediately when I open the bucket. and you are right, its like a halve cup of water for a mono to throw it into the dark brown. I hate the squeeze test advise for random people. Way too many variables.
SmartAttack has a very cool take on coir hydration. Basically steaming it so the coir takes up only what it wants. I need to look at that more.
