is jar shaking still a thing at 30%?
I feel like it slowed down the momentum too much, but I could be wrong. To be fair, the grains from the g2g were a bit clumpy. All of the growth looks very nice though!

Shaking is done to prove you have healthy myc. If we selected correctly it will (slightly) speed the process up. If there's contams though. This will lead to failure.

I always shake, everything. Some species even above 50% colonization. This is mostly to speed it up, but also to prevent the myc becoming too dense for shaking.

Ok, so the recommended shake level would be 50%? Good to know.

How do people store their Light Malt Extract? It gets clumpy in its original bag, and I recently purchased a 3lb bag. Seems a sugar container with a pour spout would be nice...

Dang 3lbs! I got a 1lb bag and I split it up between 4 of the small ziplock bags since it takes in so much moisture, just using 1 lil baggy until it's gone and then on to the next. I store the remainder in a cool, dry place.

I keep mine in it's original package, rubber banded shut, and I keep that inside a ziploc with a desiccant.

rookie question,
kinda hard to see, is this first luck on getting germinated spores?
6 days in liquid (just to get them to germinate) this pic
same spores 4 days on agar with no visible growth, is that normal. (seaweed solutions mea)

Almost impossible to see what's going on in that pic. Clear, smooth glass jars work best for incpecting LC's. Here's an example of a pic that shows clearly what's going on inside the LC.

from my brewing days it is basically fancy brown sugar, it will get dry and clump but as soon as it hits water again should be fine.
Try to keep it humidified

No time, there was no germination it's Inoculated with a live culture so it starts colonizing right away as soon as it's dropped inside the broth.
If you're gonna make a LC from spore solution then it's even more crucial that you start of with a crystal clear broth inside a smooth and clear glass jar, that way you can easily spot if or when a bacterial colony germinates and contaminates the broth. Bacteria will turn a crystal clear broth turbid in a matter of hours, but if your broth was slightly turbid to begin with then you won't be able to spot bacteria as easy.

I prefer a good shake at precisely 31%

I wasted a lot of my life brewing beer as well. Nothing to show for it except a bunch of medals/ribbons, a garage full of equipment my wife doesn't know how much I spent on it and probably a swollen liver. These 2 year old sours are the last batches I brewed, still waiting on bottles:

I put it in glass jars with tight sealing lids, like recycled baking yeast jars. Works. And I keep one of those in the fridge now after all of my LME turned hard as a brick during the heat dome we had last year when it hit 117 F one day with no AC.

I did liquid extract out of it and store it in the fridge. Just gotta take it out and warm it up before using though.

 Cool painting
Once I get it into bottles I'm sure we could work something out I'll let you know! I learned pretty quick not to share with my neighbors - I gave one a sampler 6 pack a few years ago and instead of just telling me politely they ONLY drink Bud heavy they absolutely guzzled every bottle in front of me and said 'they're OK' to not be rude? 5/6 of those were national level qualifiers and I would have happily taken them back lol.
That painting was a birthday gift for my wife. It's the pegboard in her office/craft room now. Hand stenciled and I mixed every one of those colors myself. I think you like it more than she does NEVER again lol.
Sorry to derail. Carry on, fine people

Sometimes I shake twice. Three times is just playing with it though.
