When I had shrooms in the 70's it was great, I fell in love with my motorcycle.
Now it's so much body load I'm even trying Niacin. So ya Nats sound great.
^^^^ the body load is what keeps me from wanting to take cubes, almost ever, in my old age. I'm 40 and just can't stand it anymore. Can't get comfortable in any position.
Nats were totally different.

Like Crack said, about the same time frame for me as well, same conditions. I didn't have any issues with overlay and got a decent harvest from a bag that showed green mold before it even got pins.
I'd for sure toss out a novelty cube for Nats. It's neat to grow different/odd looking mushrooms, I loved the TATs I got, but I'll eat the Nats over them any day. I ate 32g fresh and would readily try 50 next time, if I ever get the time. With cubes, I wouldn't dare go over 30 fresh, them shits get too dark for me, like DMT Cool when I was younger.

Can you describe the "body high"? You've piqued my interest.
It's just relaxing and comfortable, reminiscent of a hint of MDMA or something. I say reminiscent, don't get too excited But my eyes would become a bit difficult to focus and bounce around a little bit, so I found it easier at points to just not even try to focus them. And I was totally comfortable just lying on the couch, instead of having to get up, pace, forget what I was doing, get paranoid, lie back down, hate that, etc.

Ugh, I really wish I would have kept that natalensis print I had way back when. I traded it because people were just figuring out how to grow them and it all looked like a big mess of overlay to me. Your description has got me very intrigued. Thanks for answering!

This sounds like a welcome upgrade of the typical cube trip. I’ll keep an eye on our Marketplace for a nat print/swab. Thanks for sharing your experience

I've got a natalensis isolate I've been working with, but last time I fruited it, it didn't ever colonize through the top of the casing layer. Instead I just got crazy clusters of side pins. I've got basically a whole jar of teeny dried out natalensis pins, but I've been too scared to try them because I don't know how to dose such tiny mushrooms.

I've got clones of those pins on grain right now, so I'm hoping to dial it in better this time around on the fruiting. Maybe I cased them too thick? I'm using plain coir.

Glad I transferred a Nat plate pin the other day in light of this discussion

The myc on that plate is pretty crazy, went over the rim of the dish and out of it and bruised hard af.
Anyway, it'll be cool to try Nats if I figure out my issues. First results from my last test aren't looking good, so now I'm considering my water source. Since moving last summer I've had dismal yields to say the least. Where I'm at now draws from a private well so I'm thinking either that or there's enmeshed mold on all my plates (of 7 cultures that I've tried to fruit)

This is why I love them. They make me feel the same way but I have a good pair of headphones on and instead of not focusing on my eyes I just close them. I’ve had some crazy cev on these and so have a few friends of mine.

That's what makes Natalensis a winner in my eyes. Perfect for recreational experiences.

Did you just use 100% coir for your substrate? CV? I think I'll be putting Nats to agar in a few weeks

I just used coir on mine, couldn't find verm around for any price I was willing to pay... I'll probably use the v next time though as Walmart finally got vermiculite in.

Hello guys, can you check out this picture? It seems to be the first growth of the second batch of PF jars I've made, but this one seems different than the first jars which have the usual rhizomorph look of a healthy mycelium. It isn't also growing just below one of the cap holes too, but I guess it's a minor.
I also think that I've soaked the substrate too much, with the result of having it very packed. Only this jar, out of 6, is showing any signs of life after 4 days from the inoculation.

If you inoculated with spore solution only 4 days ago then it's a bit early to say Germination can take up to a week. And if you're unsure about the consistency of the substrates then I recommend you sacrifice one of the jars, open it up and the substrate in half to see if it is too compacted and sticky otherwise you won't be able to know for sure if that is what's hindering the colonization. You can always make more substrates

If the germination doesn't begin in a jar, can that one be just steam sterilized and inoculated again? It would be a shame to throw it, if something went wrong with the first inoculation.

Technically yes, if you heat the substrate for 90min at 212F you will again sterilize the contents but you will more than likely end up with a substrate that is sticky and too compact for myc to be able to colonize it so you should never try to re-sterilize a substrate that wasn't able to colonize in the first place. I suggest opening the jar to check the state of the substrate mix, my guess is that it won't be a porous and light substrate mix.
How were you planning to birth those substrates? By smashing the jars or what? I think you should start this grow over and try to gather all the right materials before you start a new grow
Its okay to improvise but try to keep it to a minimum unless you have no other choice.

Hah, no no. It's very simple: I'll just extract it by pieces breaking it with a spoon or something; the plan is just to use it as spawn to make shoeboxes with it. You'd have to break it anyway. Seems to be way better, yield wise, than just put the cakes in a fruiting chamber. Also, I can't find any wide mouth jars (of useful capacity) around here.
Edit: I already have 4 pint jars partially colonized, this one of the picture if just a second batch of jars.
