Dude, I thought I'd seen it all! Today I learned about a guy who cleaned his sceptic tank after a major internal surgery. Let's just say he was on IV antibiotics for awhile.

I wear safety glasses ALL. THE. TIME. One of my foremen a few years ago was using a string trimmer to edge a sidewalk - it picked up a little pebble which ruptured his eyeball. No PPE, no workmans comp. Sorry dude
Shameless self quote. Any insight?

yeah, man. safety glasses all the time. had a buddy that was using an angle grinder without goggles and got an unknown piece of metal in his eye. had an MRI a few days later and the scrap went through his eye and blinded him. lucky it wasn't worse

Safety glasses don't always work unfortunately, I used to be in charge of a large machine shop and saw some nasty lathe injuries with safety glasses on.
One guy came to my colleague with a large coil sticking out of his eye, it got under the glasses as it wrapped and wriggled around. He had a 15cm coil sticking out of his eye that we carefully turned out and rushed him to hospital, he was a ok though.

Well shoot, all my agars have been under 2%, but I have started adding yeast. 6g 1.3% Agar, 6g LME, 1g Yeast, 450ml Blu
So it looks like I need 8g LME + 1g yeast = 9g in 450ml = 2% nutrients
(it's 450ml because I use a 500ml bottled water, simmer and strain it. Which brings it down to 450ml )
Actually I'm prolly losing a lot of the yeast by straining, so perhaps that lessens the nutes.

Totally, the roads here are narrow. Coming back from the beach an on coming van hit my side mirror. The glass shatters pierced my chest and face. By a stroke of luck I was wearing sunglasses.

Regarding eye safety and PPE: I worked in small arms ammo manufacturing, and I have had several pairs of safety glasses get cracked or shattered from primers detonating and throwing brass shrapnel, and smokeless powder getting trapped in blind holes, like in the bolt hole of a small part. When you insert your Allen wrench and apply pressure, the whole part will come apart, even if just a tiny bit of explosive gets confined. Glasses may not prevent all eye injuries, but they have saved my vision more times than I would like to count. I now wear them even if I’m just using a hammer to drive nails. Shit happens. Doing cult work would be very hard after being blinded. Stay safe out there.

I had an angle grinder shoot out of my hands and hit me in the groin, it ripped through my pants and underwear and nicked my scrotum, luckily my underpants wrapped around the stem and seized the grinder.

My girl absolutely hates me because I never do glasses, earmuffs, gloves or masks, and I'm constantly using power tools, breaking up coir and working in high spore environments, as well as handling various chemicals, solvents, adhesives the list goes on. Idk it's become more of a reality the last year or so as the repricussions become more apperant and the workloads increase. I kind of wish I had started sooner to some extent. I worry about my lungs, my ears and skin, can't lie my microscope has me worried about my eyes 8n the long run more than anything... If I wear goggles.

i'm glad that PPE has become such a discussion. it's a serious fucking thing. i spent decades in danger. who can say for sure cause i smoked cigs, breathed organic vapor solvents and worked barehanded with lead and cadmium and mercury based paints. 9/11 poisoned the air.
and now i am in active treatment for lymphomaS. no really.
PPE is a good idea.

My chemical/fertilizer foreman used to complain and give me shit because I require chemical aprons, goggles, gloves and rubber boots to be worn when he mixes our tanks but when he's spraying all he's required to wear is rubber boots and gloves. I got sick of hearing him bitch so I brought in tyvek suits one day and made him sweat (literally) for a day. Told him he can keep bitching or wear the suit when he's spraying. Haven't heard a word sense
I've had too many conversations with employees that don't know we're having a conversation because they don't wear ear plugs/muffs at work. Sitting/standing on 10 to 30 horse power mowers blaring for 10+ hours a day with 2 stroke motors running full tilt all around them. Or they'll put earbuds in and drown out the mower noise with even louder music
Oh well, back on track:

Took one of those cheap "greenhouses" from Amazon and converted the top two shelves into a humidity chamber. Outer frame of wood, finished on the inside with corrugated plastic, plexiglass front, and secured to the main structure with plastic nuts and bolts.
Not the prettiest thing I've ever built, but it should work for Lion's Mane (and maybe some pans at some point) and be a lot easier to regulate humidity/temperature and clean out than the plastic bag that it came with.
