I get that type of growth a lot. I hate it as it tends to mat and overlay in my conditions. Lately I case that when I see it and get better results.
Not saying your going to have a bad time, but I dislike that in my arid place.

I'm not sure if I made gas exchange holes in my mason jar lids prematurely.. I'm soon ready to pressure cook the grains. But the jar lids now have a hole in the center. Of course I would cover the jar lids with foil, but should I cover the hole in the middle with micropore tape or something before installing foil on it too?

Yes. You'll need some type of filter to cover the holes. You can use polyfil, sfd's, micropore tape or sticky sfd filters. I like the sticky ones.

Thanks dude! I was a bit worried at first, but I guess I'll double micropore tape it just to be safe.

I'd do more than 2 layers. More like 4-6.

There's a million ways to grow. That's just some of how i do....

Keep it the way that it is. You just want to keep contaminants from getting in and ruining your spawn. Once the grain is 100% colonized, they can be exposed to open air but you will still want to leave the filter on until you spawn.

Hey all- this is my first attempt at agar > grain. These are four sides of one jar. Does it look like this will be ready to spawn to bulk pretty soon?

In order to do a syringe of mycelium water from a PF Tek cake (pint), will 10 mls of sterile water be enough? I mean, will I be able to retrive all those 10 mls of water back in the syringe from the jar?
Also, this has to be done in the SAB?

Looks close, personally I'd give it a good shake now just to make sure it recovers quickly, if it does you know it's good to go. Or you can just wait till those last few grains are colonized.

This is called a grain liquid culture or glc. In order to get 10 mls back you would have to inject much more than that. Yes it must be done in a SAB.
This technique isn't used much anymore because if you inoculate your pf Tek cake with spores there is a 99.99% chance it contains bacteria. This will turn your syringe into gross bacterial soup

Just finished up inoculating 8 quart jars of rye with agar. Got a bunch of Texas orange cap isolates as well as a couple P. natalensis I'm working with. I really like the TOC culture, I've been growing it for a little while now but have yet to stabilize a phenotype. Hopefully I'll have some sexy fruits to post in the next month or so.

OK, thank you!
So I'm gonna go with the spore syringe method, but I have a question about it... Not having a PC, would it be sufficient to just sanitize the shot glass with alcohol 70%? If not, it would be enough for sterilization to put it in a oven at 266Β°F for just 20 minutes? If possible, I'd avoid to have it in the oven for an hour or more.

Recovery seems to be good to my amateur eyes after 48 hrs. All grains are colonized now. Should I wait for it to get a little thicker to spawn to a shoebox?

I'd wait a couple more days, there's a few in there that need more time.
