Hi, is discoloration of oats during the grain spawning phase normal? Or is it an indicator of bacteria?
Here are two photos of two grains of oats that I'm referring to. They are the only two grains out of 10 jars with the discoloration...

When you get your bag if you don't want weevils just stir in a few cups of diatomaceous earth. It kills all crawling critters that can live it the and won't harm mushrooms. Just wear a mask when handling the bag of DE and don't directly inhale it.
A sprinkle in the top of your houseplants that you may have buried spawn in also helps keep nasties from taking over your house. If you kill the fungus gnats and fruit flies in there larval stage you don't have to worry about an infestation.

That is contaminated, it's not bacterial.

That looks like green mold. I also see more than two grains in those pics.

Oh very nice, I'm replacing my quote about diatomaceous earth from someone else with yours. I hope you don't mind if I throw it out there when I feel the urge to share? I put it in my 50 lb bag of oats and I've started to add some to the coir. Gnats are just a part of life here. I don't like to spout stuff off the top of my head, but I love to share a reliable quote.

Bod is the one I got the truck from Here
I use more than he recommended because I store in buckets and it all just seemed to be at the bottom. The bucket also helps prevent bests of the mammailian and avian varieties from getting into your bag.

Ok, his quote is 4 years old, so there's that. Although my searches only go back 5 years. 2001 is the first mention, but maybe that's a fresh server. 1,307 threads for gnats.
Also in Fungus Gnats Starbones brings up a couple interesting points. And then the conversation went to the frogs!
I have my 50 lbs of oats in a cooler and they're still lookin good man!
Maybe I can ask Bodhi to truck in some more.

Vacuums can help eliminate large swarms of flys pretty quickly. Best not to cultivate pests.

It's been 496 days since I spawned my first tub and this is my first trich tub.

I streaked a nat print on this plate and this is what grew. It looked sketch but it was extremely slow growing and threw some ropes at the edge of the plate. I thought maybe this would be the key to Nats without overlay so I took a couple of transfers.

The jar looked good after fully recovering from a shake at 100% colonization so I sent it to grain and here we are.

I've lost a few jars to trich and they always sweat and turn green.
 Never happened with these.

BTI (for me in misting water) is the way, I've been there already, or see what I'm working on in my LAGM post (just don't let them in in the first place)...

That might be not trich. I've had trich infections in bags and green mold similar to this in bags. This kind of mold might be ran over by myc (obvoiusly, don't spawn that, I'd nuke it in the PC, before disposal, but I'm a little paranoid about things like aspergillosis...), if you leave that jar long enough around. Trich ravages everything.

I can't find all the ingredients at my home improvement stores. I'm kinda not supporting Amazon if I don't need to..
Thanks in advance!
I've used and still use the Jiffy with the coir. I add it after colonization and make it over field capacity. Here's a few tubs I used it on.

That's an old photo. That was one of my first jars ever. I think I forgot about that jar when I moved. Might still be in that shed lol.

This might have turned very gross now.
I forgot a heavily bacterial contamed bottle once for half a year or so on top of a kitchen cabinet, still fruited fine...

The jar actually looks bacterial.

What makes you think that? Usually the grain sticks to the glass if it's a little wet and the myc has a hard time colonizing that part. I used to always think that it was a bacterial issue but it only happens to the ones against the glass so I've been contributing it to just being wet and stuck to the jar. I've had some pretty bad bacterial jars and they always sweat pretty bad. These jars had no condensation at all.
Fluffy mycelium is another thing I look for but I didn't give it much thought here. These came from Nat plates and Nat is... well, Nat. It does weird shit lol.

A similar looking mold has been pestering me for a while. If you leave a jar with that stuff around and dump it out, there's a large dust plume. How did you ID Doctor Mario's mold? I'm just curious...

This is APE spawn - does it look ok to spawn to bulk? It's been much slower than regular cubensis and looks ...different?
