Hmm I'm about to mix up some pan-cake mix. But am a little low on brown rice potentially. Any reason why I shouldn't throw in some whole millet? Or even grind the millet into a flour if I need a bit extra to make the ratio up? Or should I make up the difference with manure/straw? So many possibilities!

Sensi-Temp burners on ranges and cooktops manufactured on or after the regulatory change cannot be replaced with burners without Sensi-Temp Technology.
I read this too but there's a lot of people that are saying that's a lie. The burners that I bought will be here today so we'll see.

I figured as much it's just a simple device. I looked at some videos that show how to easily bypass it even with the ones with the sensor. You just short the 2 wires on the sensor inside that metal thing or bend the pins to touch.

I was gonna try that but supposedly it drastically shortens the life of the receptacle. If these new burners don't work, guess I'm gonna have to buy a hot plate.

Yeah that disclaimer feels like “can’t be replaced” means it’s illegal due to whatever changes they referenced.

We talking nutritional yeast? Could be interesting. Obviously it's not necessary, but it's possible that there's some limiting micronutrients that yeast would add. Some side-by-side comparisons are the only way to really tell. Good ol' science.

In 20+ years of shroomery collaboration, we have not found anything worth adding to grain spawn. Just saying.

With the exception of liquid coffee in the soak water. Faht, Pasty, and RR say it helps. Bod and hamloaf say it doesn't. I've ran tests and it seems like it makes a difference, though I've not done it with an isolate yet to confirm it's not a genetics difference. Coffee grounds seem to be a trich magnet.

Is the jiffy mix sold now with coir a waste of money or good enough for PE cultivating?
I can't find all the ingredients at my home improvement stores. I'm kinda not supporting Amazon if I don't need to..
Thanks in advance!

Have you checked your grocery store? Mine carries it in the seasoning aisle. Bottom shelf, next to all their other pickling spices I do believe

How long have your tubs gone in fruiting conditions without fruiting?
I ask because I'm at 25 days for mine.
When I grew years ago, I never had such difficulty. Here are the variables that are different:
- Before, I was using a SGFC. Now I am trying a monotub, but with no holes on the side, only a big adjustable one on top with polyfill to keep the bugs out.
- Before, I was using WBS. Now I'm using rye.
- Spores from a different source.
Should I just wait longer on this tub? 25 days seems like a long time... Or, I can give it up and try the SGFC again. Thoughts?

Close up surface picture? Could be dried out (matted surface) or just genetic unluck. I've had that problem with my first tubs in 2018 + abysmally slow culture (AA+, I've ran that one in parallel in Muda bottles, took over five weeks to pin for both, tubs side pinned, because of f*cked surface).

Hi all! Quick question... has anyone figured out a reliable way to use whole brown rice as grain for spawn without it sticking like crazy in clumps inside the jars? Maybe mixing them with perlite or verm or something?
I ask because where I live it's a PITA to get good quality oats or other grains, they are always 40 kg+ bags that are INFESTED with weevils every single time. Besides I don't run a large scale operation and 1 kg of whole brown rice fills all the jars I can fit in my pressure cooker anyway.

Why does it matter if they have weevils? If you are pressure cooking the grains long enough to kill mold spores and bacteria, it's definitely long enough to kill weevils and their eggs.

Seems too dry. Go here for examples, on how to diagnose/treat that further: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23999053

Because I live in a small apartment and don't want a 40 kg+ bag full of critters than can literally bite their way out and infest the entire place It happened to me before with oats and had to throw out the entire bag out.
edit: also oats from which weevils have emerged have holes in them and make a bigger mess when you try to hydrate them by boiling; they are also partially hollow.
