So, I have 50 grams (1,76 oz) of BRF remaining after getting all I needed for the ratio... should I put those 50 grams too and finish the bag? Would it be better (more nutritious, perhaps) to just put that extra in? Or should I avoid doing it?

Just tried millet for the first time, 10 minutes soft boil seemed perfect.

Gypsum and coffee needed or just old school?

Yeah I'm kicking myself now. I planned on just doing a 24 hour cold soak but that somehow seemed like too much work at the time  hopefully they finish and I don't have to drop a grain onto agar or go back to an agar plate. I'm just happy that I won't have to go back to spore at least

No prep is sweet once you dial it in. My fastest quart ever was no prep, 6 days with whyte gold lc.

It does help a lot to shake it for the first few days after the pc too, which kinda defeats the point. Doesn’t get easier than soaking in a bucket so I went back to that after a while.

Hi, I'm in the process of my first ever grow. Currently in the process of cultivating my grain spawn. Id love to see if you can tell me if my first signs of mycelium growth is actually mycelium or mold (or some other nasty). I'll upload a couple of pics.

Thanks!!!

Heya guys I was wondering if it's viable to pasteurize my coir/verm in a 16qt tub instead of a 5 gallon bucket, would there be any issues with doing it this way? Tis pp5.

As long as it's big enough to hold the volume of the hydrated and expanded coir I don't see why it wouldn't work

Yep. LC to grain. I'm using a hole in the lid covered with sealant for the needle to go through to minimize contamination

If you got some spores left over then you oughta get em on agar while you wait for these jars.

Had 1 full canopy harvest, gave the sub a bit of a misting, now a few days later it’s covered in... not sure what that is, but it’s already in the compost.

I've been looking up growing PE here, and Ted's newer post with the multiple casing layers seems to be the best way.

I was imagining being the mycelium, and the growth cycle we put it through and had some ideas. Specifically to why we might see blobs.

Has anyone ever 'trained' the mycelium to grow up? My imagining had me jarred when I was supposed to suddenly stop growing in all directions, and only grow up for when I make mushrooms. Which is when I noticed that the casing layers seem to help tell the mycelium which direction it should pop the fruits to.

I was thinking of doing some tests where I inoculate a dish only on once side, put it on its' side to make the mycelium grow against gravity, put transfers on one side, and do the same.

Keep this up until it's spawning time, and I was thinking perhaps I might cut out the need to case.

There's a bit more to what I'm thinking but for ease of typing I thought that would cover it. Thoughts?

Hi everyone  first time growing / posting, glad to be here! Here's some pics of my two grain spawn bags, pc/golden teacher

I wish I'd found this forum sooner, before the north spore monotub youtube video that describes using syringe to grain spawn. After reading around here it's clear that isn't the preferred method. hopefully it works out ok!
I think I've gotten lucky as I haven't noticed any contamination and it smells pretty neutral.

Can anyone tell me what is the growth pattern in the bottom right of 2nd picture & in the last picture? I don't think it's contamination but I don't know much... Thank you

Thanks for always answering, promptly as well! Just waiting for it all to cool now, fits with a lil bit of room to spare, got it inside another one of the same tub, been quite hot for 1+ hour. Gonna be an all nighter but I'm not at all a stranger to that.

Gonna be doing 6 shoeboxes tonight  got 3 more not quite fully colonized imma wait on. I hope you guys are all having a lovely night as well!

Gravity training? :lmafo: Conditions are the primary driver for when and how pins form. A casing layer creates a microclimate on the surface that is favorable for pin formation. Assuming conditions are otherwise dialed in, most cubes will fruit just fine from the surface without it, but the SWPE genetics have been repeatedly shown to be more sensitive when the dicks are forming and to respond better to a nice thick casing layer.

So we know that lack of casing is what causes blobbing? I've been looking around a lot and it kinda seems like we don't know why it happens, and data is needed.

Casing seems like the only process that we haven't streamlined in the last 10 years. If casing with basically anything solves the blobbing I'm inclined to think the lack of blobbing might be a correlation instead of causation with the casing.

If you look at Ted's final pic in the first post of his PE thread you can see the myc in the sub was growing in all directions, but once it starts going through the added casing all the myc is growing up.
