I just bought all 14 of my go to store's purple latch tubs. It's not enough, but it'll get me further down the line. I'm to the point where I'm stacking tubs while they wait on shelf space. Once I get the last of my spawn of the shelf I gotta pick just a few cultures to run at once. Melmac, AMAK, APEU would do nicely.
Probably gonna just run my oysters on the shelves next to the tubs and free up my tents for plants. My fruits are looking leggy in the tent currently.

Do you ever get a ton of stuff going and keep buying more jars and tubs and then at some point everything finishes and you realize you have an absurd amount of them?
I got in a groove for months and then had to quit for a couple weeks. A month later everything was done and I just had stacks and stacks of empty tubs suddenly.

SpaceBaby said: Have you considered natalensis? people’s pics show practically all stem. and i’m told they are stronger buy a long shot, too.
I'm looking into "Texas Orange Cock" which I'd never heard of before, but saw a picture with very thick stems and relatively small caps. Hard to tell if it's just that pheno or the variety itself, but a generous soul was kind enough to shoot a couple spores my way, and I'll enjoy growing something new even if it doesn't end up being exactly what I need.
I'm also checking out sclerotia. The stones are purported to have more alkaloids by weight, so that would mean less material to get the same effect. The stones also don't produce spores, from my understanding. So if I'm on the right track with my theory about the spores containing most/all of the taste and stomach irritants, they might be perfect. For some reason I'd always assumed that stones required more work than basic cubes, but the teks I've read all seem about as simple as you can get, so I'm excited to get spores of Tampanensis that another generous member said they'd shoot my way.
Additionally, I've been chatting with my brother-in-law (who is a PhD research microbiologist) and someone over in the research forum about various filtration options: centrifuge, Buchner filter, filter bags, filter syringes... so many options. Anyway, he's putting together a sample package from his lab so I can try different methods, pore sizes, and materials to see what works best.
Should be an interesting month or two of trying new stuff, at the very least. Appreciate the reply bud, have a good one!
Im sorry for the confusion. what you got is "texas orange cap" texas orange cock (trump dick) is a cross of texas orange cap and PE. I havent given out spores of the variety yet but am spawning tubs of F8 in the next couple days
Ah okay. Appreciate the clarification.

Yeh this is my problem, I keep buying more jars, now i've started buying pp quart buckets to replace my jars so I have hundreds of jars stored in every cupboard and now a steady supply of 1 qt buckets that stack beautifully taking up way less space but also numbered in the hundreds, tubs in every room and every cupboard.

Wash hands to elbow, glove up, iso down, and wear a mask. No rush but don't go too slow. Bugs can fly in the flow so keep peats at bay.

I have a bunch of jars but now I'm bag only so those are gonna be for pickling thus summer. As for tubs I just keep going and had amassed close to 100 bags of spawn. The 150L sterilizes about 36 bags at once so I should be able to keep everything I have in rotation moving forward. I definitely got ahead of myself on culture plates because I'm just throwing plates into bags. But if they're clean then the worst case is I have a plate fruit/spores in the genetics.
I'm clearing out old work and moving forward I will mostly just run PE variants including my own hybrids. If I nail it then bag to bag expansion could really make things fast n easy. Spawning 12 tubs a day is a bit tedious but so is the average day job so at least it's excercise and on my own speed.

I’m starting to get a little frustrated. Twice now I’ve prepped grain, at first no prep. And after a 25% colonization shake, they didn’t recover well. Thought maybe it’s were too dry. Second time oats prepped by soaking and boiling and we’re fully engorged without bursting. Same gourmet cultures, same 25% shake. Same stalled growth. Now I’m wondering it it’s my lids. I was under the impression that parafilm allowed for GE but held in moisture, so I backed off my plastic lids a bit and the covered the gap with parafilm. Is it possible that I’m losing that much water content? I’ve done it this way before with cubes and nats, but this is lm, bk, and bo gourmets
All lids are unmodified, but on agar they go great. Does this narrow it down to being too dry, contam, or no GE

What kind of grain did you use for your no prep? I'm just wondering because some of my no prep millet jars seem like they're slowing waaaay down, if not stalling and I suspect they were a little dry coming out of the PC
