What cubes (or something else if it can be grown in coir tub) would give me the largest NON-cap material? Both in terms of fruit size and cap-to-stem ratio.

I’m only interested in extraction for gummies at this point, and I get the least amount of taste by only using the stems. So I’m wondering what I can cult to reduce waste and get more out of my yields.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Enigma might interest you?

Enigma really tastes bad though..

I'll look into it. Appreciate the tip.

Stones taste great and make nice gummies.

Are stones as potent as fruits?

I have a whole formula thing on that question. But short answer is Fresh Stones are about twice as strong as Fresh cubes by weight.

Once you get to dried equivalence, it gets weird because the stones contain much less water by weight. You can check here for an explanation of the formula below. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26501048#26501048

5g fresh sclerotia = 1.5g dried sclerotia = 1g dried cubes = 10g fresh cubes

My tentative addition:

1g cube dry = 10g cube fresh = 1.5g stone dried = 5g stone fresh = 0.67g tamp fruit dry = 5g tamp fresh
And
7.5-ish g fresh stones = 1g tamp fruit dry (but don't trust this yet as my first test of fresh stone gummies were much stronger than expected based on this formula)

I suspect this is why you get estimates that tamps are 1.5 or 2 times as strong as cubes. Dry tamps are 1.5 x dry cubes and fresh tamps are 2x fresh cubes also because of the different water contents.

Picked up a used 23q and cleaned up the bottom and noticed possible pitting.

Is the area 11-12 pitting? I tried feeling the area with a finger and needle but it feels pretty flat.

Thanks in advance!

I deserved that Milky! I've searched the forums a bunch but only found obvious pitting.

The PC seems functional! :woot:

I wanted to run Crackatoa's millet tek. But my other PC doesn't have the space to raise the 7 jars above the water line resulting in clumping.

If it pits a hole it would only drip super tiny, but you'll hear it when the flame flickers wet, I've killed 2:lol:

Hi

I PC'd my grains, but the access to LC to inoculate these grains with is a couple of days away. I've read other posts of people using grains they've had sitting around for a week or two with no problem, so I'm sure itll be ok.

My question; should I remove the foil from the top of the jars? I have a hole with polyfill to allow breathing

thanks

Shouldn’t matter. The only risk I guess is the tops of the grains drying out, but that won’t be a problem unless you let them sit for a really long time. A few days to a couple weeks work. Day after sterilizing is my favorite though.

Thanks for the reply MM!! Good to hear.

Quick question, so moisture in the jars after PCing is normal? This is my first batch EVER, for some reason I wasn't expecting to see moisture after PCing but come to think of it of course there should be.

Please correct me if I'm wrong

Can you post a pic? It shouldn’t  be too wet. Make sure your grains are dry on the outside but plump and hydrated before loading them. Sometimes they can be a little wet looking right after PCing but just shake it and it should re-absorb when it cools. The grains should shake easily and not be all stuck together or stuck to the glass. I usually dry my rye grains for a couple hours on a screen in front of a fan before loading. Sometimes mine look a little too dry, but those jars seem to preform better than the wetter looking ones.

Sooooo,i'm posting it here, cause i keep looking for a post about what i want and can't find it.

I ordered some gourmet mushrooms substrates (pink oyster, golden oyster, lion's mane, and shitake) and i was wondering if i could break down the bags and make them bigger.
Or break them in half and experiment with agar (they are full covered in mycelium) and fruit the other half.

Can i cut them in half and fruit both halfs or is the "mushroom" gonna be shocked?
Thnx in advance!

I would probably just fruit what you have and then clone some fruits to agar. Then you can expand from there.

You could also put a tiny piece of the sub to agar too. The benefit of cloning the fruit is you can get a cleaner piece by tearing it open and the mycelium will come from a fruit body itself.

There's drugs in those, and you could cover up the taste. Wasteful:smoker:

Agreed - caps are great for making chocolates. The last gummies I made I used the entire fruit (sporulating caps included) and couldn't taste any mushroom at all and I cooked 56g down into 4oz of concentrated tea. Waste not want not. At the very least just harvest before the veils break and then you'll have practically no cap

I'm getting a bunch of plate pins form a melmac culture I started from spores a few weeks ago. I've been transferring the largest ones to grow them out and see if they have good fruiting genetics. Do you guys think this is even worth it with this variety that seems to pin so aggressively in the first place?
