So can the dry light malt extract used for brewing beer be used in agar? seems a better buy.

nice, cause what I see a 3 lb. bag go for is cheap. Seeing what I paid for a few oz. on a supply site.

Is it a bad idea t inoculate agar with a spore print in front of a hood?

I've done it a bunch of times. Not a problem because the spores on the print stick to the aluminum.

So today I pulled out a print from my biggest shroom a few months back. Used it to make up some spore solution to try out some cake ideas and possibly pull some clones. Well the spore print was well like hard. Now it was a thick and heavy print but it was like hard flakes pealing off the foil. Did I fuck up my print when I made it? Will it probably be fine, viable spores?

Im pretty sure the spores I worked with were like that, my print was like 8 months old and I had to scrape. They worked fine.

Yea that's how my prints are. you really gotta scratch them off, and they break off in flakes. Germinated just fine. Now I keep my prints in sterile petri dishes cause I really dislike touching the foil when unwrapping. Store the plates in a ziplock with silica gel packs.

Ok I got to get some of those gel packs. I do at least keep them stored in a zip lock bag in my "genetics tub". lol
I was just concerned as I purchased an ovoid spore recently and when putting some of them on agar, it was a lot easier. Perhaps because it was lighter than my home made.

I think I made a mistake by just using one full quart jar of spawn for my shoe box when I should have used 2. It's not wanting to pin and I think in some spots the mycelium died and formed a waxy mat. I've dialled in some factors and it seems to be coming back, but super slow. Is using one quart jar the reason for my issues?

Mine matured in a week. But like P and pasty said the other day, the top of the stipe near the cap will start to soften up and get squishy. Harvest then.
