Your probe can reach 245F from the outside of the PC?? The highest I've gotten a meat probe was 113C (237F) and that was at 18-19psi.
I've only had a few brands over the years, but all of them exceeded 250 easily.
The probe itself goes much higher, but the outer temp of the PC has only gone up to 113C

ahhhh, I get it now. Yes, I went to some length to make great contact with the PC and to insulate the entire nearby area. Works pretty well.... its all in the Tek.

This tek has worked really nice for me, 1.5 hours soak at 195f and like 1 hour draining works perfect.

I spawned this Nepal Chitwan 7qt a couple weeks ago, along with a couple PE. These Chitwans are apparently super slow, and using the search engine I've noticed peeps saying it's a weak cube. Aside from that disappointment I'm not sure what to expect from these pins. I've seen similar pins while cruising the forum in the past but I don't recall the outcome. Aside from the negative info, everything else looks good, to me.
7qt shoebox 1G/4CV compressed 2CV casing compressed per p9.

Any advice for this newb?

IME Chitwan wasn't really weak - 3g was more than enough for people to get into orbit and I found 1-1.5g to be my comfort zone, although I'm extremely sensitive to psychoactives. I also didn't notice them to be slower than normal. The only thing I did notice about them that caused me to work other varieties was they have a habit of being hollow. Maybe I'm biased since Chitwan was my first ever cube grow but I enjoyed them - in fact, I still am!
Your PE shoebox looks like it is going to blob but it's hard to tell. PE looks really funny at the pinning stage
edit: I just realized that's the chitwan box, not PE. That's not what any of my Chitwan pins ever looked like so I won't be of much help but I'm curious to see the results

Thanks for that. This tub is the Chitwan. Not PE. One out of 5 PE started to pin today. I noticed the oddity in this Chiwan yesterday. I suspected blobs would be the outcome. Thanks!

While we are on the topic sorta fellas, if my gauge should fail, I can rest easy right, because essentially the weight controls the pressure so the gauge simply does not matter? and if your weight weighs X grams and so does mine and your gauge says 17psi then I can be sure mine is operating at pressure even if the dial itself is goosed? Am I understanding it properly please guys?
hope I managed to make sense trying to explain myself. If my dial breaks I can't just pop down the shop for another one, using a presto in Europe has it's drawbacks in the event of parts failing or whatever

Correct! The gauge is for information only. The rocker is what controls the pressure by venting any excess. So adjusting heat to just barely venting through the rocker is the reliable control.
Should the rocker vent get plugged the safety plug should blow out. The gauge still doesn't help you except to let you know that you have gone way over pressure.
Never trust your safety to any device or internet advice. Read your manual and try to keep your equipment in the best possible condition.
Stay safe!

I'd like to start to test alternatives to coir, as a backup for when/if the world ends. I'm in the PNW. Wood pellets? What else is an option for a standard cube mono?

Did you see my enigma on sawdust/Pioppino on coir thread...? Ha josex tried perilite!
Hemp or some mixture of hemp and something will probably do it. I mean really idk why you couldn't reuse substrates just for water holders really if you need to. I know some people are reammending spent spawn for oysters. But you would have to sterilize probably..

I bet composted leaves or grass would work if it was properly pasteurized. I would like to do some tests myself. I just stocked up on coir, but it can be hard to find locally sometimes.

Straw and mulch both work. Anything goes to certain extent with proper prep. Some things are naturally antifungal and require extra effort. If you sterilize the medium and have patience... wattya got that's cheap and abundant.
I would grow the grain for spawn and use the straw for substrate.
If africa runs on millet then it might be the best choice in an emergency. Grows long straws too so win-win. Ginna need some wind turbines...
