I don't think mushrooms will stop being able to reproduce due to inbreeding. Just makes them more homogenous as Aka said. That's why hunting wild phenos will always be valuable.

Doctor Mario said: Gonna derail a bit here but I often wonder about accidental isolation of unwanted genetics. For instance, if I took spores from a tub that took longer than normal to pin and someone else uses those spores. Will those spores also produce slow cultures or will it take a few generations for that trait to stabilize?
It's just a hunch but I think that this is likely especially when everybody and their mom is trying to make money selling spores. Good genetics get over looked when the goal is to make as many prints and syringes as possible. I'd really like to get my hands on some OG genetics or wild prints.
Okay this brings up a question that I have had since I started cult.
I am starting with a true wild spore print of Asian cubes. I've managed to take what was a disgusting wild print and clean it up though cult. Now here is my question.
When I do my first giveaway, would people prefer a print from basically generation 1 (first brf cakes that germinated and produced spores). Or after I've attempted to narrow down some of the traits through successive generations? It sounds like there might be more interest in the early generations.
My LAGM 2022 is being done with the first prints that I got off of my first grows from wild. I am still getting VERY mixed results. some smaller than a lighter. and more recently getting some the size of my hand.

I think most people would prefer the diverse genetics from earlier unless you got a cool pheno that you’re trying to stabilize and want help doing so.

Okay that makes sense. I will try to get some of the first sets of prints back to my main lab, so I could ship some off to people here. Likely later in the year, depending when I move.
A little bit nervous to mail them, but it's better than carrying them though customs.

Posted this over in GGMM a few days ago but it’s been pretty quiet over there lately so figured I’d ask here.
Anyone know about how long bags need to cool in the PC for a seal to form? Wanting to test a back to back sterilization but don’t want to lose that first batch from opening too soon.

The seal forms as soon as the begin to cool. You can open the cooker about 20-30 minutes from 0 psi and see the vacuum pull as they are exposed to cooler air, then they cool faster. You can leave the lid off to cool for another half hour to partially cool before moving them by carefully grabbing a certain part of the folded side gusset depending on how you folded it.

Can i get a sanity check? What do y'all think of these? The agar is black tea agar, trying to take advantage of it's antibacterial properties to add another level of protection.

Thanks sandman. Very much appreciated. Sounds like it is very doable. I’ll give it a go here in the next week or two.

Seems like the longer they cool under vacuum the more tight they'll shrink all around though. Am I mistaken?

they will form the tightest vacuum when cooled quicker. Since the vacuum is the difference in the volume of air from being hot to cold, the maximum vacuum is achieved when sealed at its hottest point. The seal needs to be tight at first to hold the most vacuum.

But not too soon, gotta wait for the core to drop under 212 at the very least or they will expand. That should be a few minutes or so minimum. I usually wait about 30 minutes if im trying to run it twice.

I received this culture from a guy on IG. It's called Makilla Gorilla... it's DC Mak x APE. Is anyone familiar with this culture or similar? I'm unfamiliar with how they're growing and am unsure when to harvest. They don't seem to be dropping spores. Do I just let them go until they stop growing...since veil's are clearly not an indicator with these? The stipes seem to be continuing to grow. Also, could cold temps(65F) be causing short mushrooms? or is that genetics/mushrooms aren't done growing yet?

I'd let those go till the caps are flat and just beginning to curl up at the edges. They look great.
Maybe try a 66qt @70°F

I inoculated this jar about three weeks ago and it's not quite 100% colonized. But there seems to be a pin forming already!! The top of the jar is the only part that isn't colonized. Should I wait a bit longer or dunk/birth this one?
I'm guessing since this are full pint jars and most of the spores were injected towards the bottom, that I should be good to birth them.
