I PC my tools in a similar fashion, but only when I’m sterilizing LC or agar. I include them in the cycle. Other than that I just wipe with iso and flame before each use.

I've been fighting contaminated agar plates the entire first half of this cult season so I decided just to sterilize my tools and the very next transfers I took were beautifully clean. It could just be a coincidence but ever since then I'll sterilize them any time I cook agar but today I decided I wanted to do my tools on their own before I go do some transfers tonight

I’ve never sterilized tools in the PC. Flamed them with a torch for a long time and only recently got a bacti-cinerator.
I always thought flaming worked fine, but i didn’t like the exposed flame while I was working and refilling the butane was annoying. The bacti-cinerator, while more expensive, doesn’t need to be refilled and sterilized a greater length of the scalpel than flaming did.
I never felt the need to PC them.

Ive only ever PCd my handle before making the last transfer that im going to do either to agar or grain, just for peace of mind. Gotta unwrap it in the SAB/FH and not take it out tho or its basically useless

After a recent mess up with agar bc of my nasty scalpel handle that I probably forgot to wipe I have recently also switched to sterilizing all of my tools every time I sterilize agar.
Think I had to redo 38 out of 40 transfers. Lesson learned

Fuck open flames when I'm working.

Does this look like mold? Tub smells normal but it looks a little suspect. If in doubt should I mist it with peroxide?

Shinier white patch is no bueno usually. It typically starts as little white splatters IME. From the pictures looks like maybe a mix of trich and knots.. Let someone else chime in. Pics are hard.

I read a critique of someone's recorded technique and it was mentioned that the scalpel was being held too close to the blade. So I only hold the end of the handle now. Keeping my very not sterile gloves away from everything. I spray the whole tool down with 70% iso and with a plumbers full sized torch, blast the entire thing, both sides (only the blade to orange tho) sometimes my gloves flame a bit blue... but its only 70% iso.... harmless. I go through many dozens of plates without a contam.

Pale ass shiitakes from no light. Anecdotally I only see cubes come up in the middle of the night. Not like I stare at them all the time. Never see them before bed then I'll wake up at like 3am and boom cubes (outdoors) I'm no TC.
I definitely notice that they grow more during the night. But complete darkness doesnt mean more growth. Not that you were saying that

When trich goes green is it sporulating?
I collect contammed bins on the lanai and the back patio. I'm always to paranoid to open them to clen cause I don't want a spore bath. I know I am nuts, but am I putting spores all over when I open the fuckers?

Feelings areb't facts, as AA says...If I did know, I would wait to ask a more worthwhile question...I don't want to be the boy who cried Question.

Open them all outside and burn the clothes and take a freezing ass shower from the hose before I go back in?
And, BTW, do you run your [LeakProof] lids [with SFDs] through the dishwasher or just brush em off and let the PC sterilize whatever might be clinging?

I remember there was another post here recently where a user pointed out that one of their agar plates would show rings that correlated with day and night cycles.
I'm also seeing that same pattern myself on my own ps. cyan agar plates which is interesting to see. I believe this tends to happen more with woodlovers rather than cubes but I'm not sure.
PS: Nichrome, I already miss the Bill Murray avatar man, I really did go back and watch Life Aquatic just because your previous icon.
