Quick question guys. I fucked-up while making couple of LC.
Instead of putting 0.5 grams of Malt Extract per 250 ml of water - I put 5 grams... Of course I realized it the day after, when I had inoculated all my LCs
Will I still be able to work with these? Or should I just start over? They look really dark, and there's a lot of sediment at the bottom (I don't have a photo atm).

It will be fine, thats only ~2% sugar. In the long long ago I would run lme/dextrose LC at 4% sugar, it was the standard recipe way back then. It'd be all caramel coloured and there would be sediment but the myc grew and it worked
Maybe make a back up batch and transfer from the 2% to a .2% once you see some growth?

I'm trying to understand light requirement for cubensis.
I've got a bunch of shoeboxes that are pinning right now and the growth is leaning heavily towards the direction of the one window in the room I am growing in. It's a frosted window, we've had only cloudy weather since they started fruiting so it's not exactly a bright room. But it's still a source of indirect light 12 hours a day right now.
But the fact the fruits are growing so directionally probably indicates they could do with more light I guess?
I've moved my shelves with the shoeboxes on them to a brighter room for now but am curious about dealing with "tilting" mushrooms and light....

Speak of the fucking devil. I did my research a bit too and was going to go with the amscope120 but I found this on Craigslist for 200 with all the accessories. I think it's a good deal? Now just got to figure out how it works!

They don't need light. Like literally don't need any light. They aren't plants.
I've grown plenty of cubes/gourmets in 100% darkness in my tent as I couldn't cool it down. Not saying the fruits will be pretty or straight. If you can read it's more then enough light.
Anecdotal evidence blue wavelength light is best.

Its kinda a faux pas to double post here. Lots of us are readying numerous threads...
People usually just flip the tote around if they want the cubes to straighten. no real need to, but I do. More light does increase yield... but barely. People often spend too much time thinking about lighting. I know I did.

I keep my favorites tubs in the bedroom so i can shine a flashlight on em in the middle of the night and see how much they've grown. It's an addiction, the cult thing.

I used to run my lights 12 on 12 off. Lately they've been 8 on 16 off. I'm sure the time on could be shortened way more.

they don't need light but your fruits will be stunted/look like shit and yields will be shit. they grow in pastures with tons of light. if you want big full flushes with even pinsets and healthy looking fruits give them lots of light

Absolutely when in need you can get away with less then ideal. I put my fruits through the ringer low 60's and barely light. Makes them stronger

Not more potent. Just stocky little strong dudes.
Pale ass shiitakes from no light. Anecdotally I only see cubes come up in the middle of the night. Not like I stare at them all the time. Never see them before bed then I'll wake up at like 3am and boom cubes (outdoors) I'm no TC.

I'm using a gasket lid sterilite with typical side vents. Do I still need to crack the lid for FAE? Obviously lots of factors involved but generally speaking should I crack the lid?

Does anyone know what's going on here? It's been one massive mushroom growing in its own for about a week, I see other pins now but Im not sure why this happened, the curving little soldier and the rapid growth..? Light is not coming from an angle which was my first thought, though maybe missing something..
Cheers!

Those are the ones i use! If they are unmodded, just flip the lid. If they are modded, keep the lid on normally.

I’d imagine that has more to do with a better environmental conditions at night like more humidity near the substrate.

How does everyone sterilize their tools, if anyone even does? I wrap my scalpels/loops/tweezers/scissors/transfer tool in foil, put them into a quart mason jar with a foil 'lid' and PC for 20 minutes at 15psi and call it good. Does this seem right?
I'm sure a lot of you will tell me it isn't necessary since I flame them and whatever but I'd much rather go overboard and give myself a little bit of cheap insurance
