Thanks Pheonix.  Can I hurt it with too much water at this stage?

Let me say it like this. Theres this thing called... Bottom watering. Some cultures literally soak water up throuigh the sub so fast and push it into the pins that you can fill the bottom of the tub with water to push ur sub to the max. So... If everything is clean having excess water wont be a problem but if somethings is going to go wrong obviously having it sopping wet can exacerbate said something wrong.

Ramble aside theres a balance you learn to keep with surface conditions over time depending on the culture and your location. Id suggest misting the surface pretty heavily but dont cause too much pooling (having a good flat sub can help with this) and watch them pins go :tellmeastory:

Phoenix - what's your opinion on computer fans for monotub FAE?  More risk than good?

All bad. Same goes for heating pads. Cubes are perfectly fine with passive FAE from either a shoebox or an EZ dial tub. In fact, more often than not cubes tend to fuck up when you try and use technology on them lol.

Fae happens passively with monotubs. Cubes are fairly CO2 tolerant so rigging up fans to a tub is overkill and will probably just lead to a dried out substrate.

Personally I elevate the bags off the work surface with a rack to keep off the turbulent table as well, so nothing rolls up the backside.

Look around 2:40 here

Bags dont need to be elevated because u dont inoculate the bottom. The top of the bag is in the flow and thats what matters

Not disagreeing with you at all because I usually do three bags open at a time in front of the hood when performing G2G

... but seeing members like Ted in particular who opens 10 bags in front of the hood and with solid success rates makes me wonder.

I'm not encouraging this as the way things should be done, more so just acknowledging that with proper technique it seems you can really maximize the real estate in front of one's hood.

What sandman is advising is best practice, crowding the hood is what can I get away with.

Most of mushcult is like that. It's best practice to wear gloves, iso wipe, etc often these steps are skipped for convenience sake.

Yep. I showed you the smoke test video you can see for yourself how much turbulence is created from a big thing in the hood. There is low pressure on the backside of the bags that can have an eddy run right up to the open top. You don't NEED to elevate them as not every bag will get the right current to contaminate it but that is how you avoid workspace turbulence from crawling up the bag. If the air can run under the bag then there will be a much smaller space of low pressure on the downside of the bag.

When I see people with crowded hoods I see people have no idea how to use the tools they have.

Here's my bag workflow

One bag at a time, 48x30" workspace.

Right on. Wasn't trying to disprove you. Shouldn't have chimed in to begin with.

I did one at a time for the entirety of 2021 until maybe 8 weeks back I started doing three.

Never had any issues with one, it's just a little slower when you're trying to do 150-200 bags in a reasonable amount of time.

That's a lot of sack if you know what I mean. You got a mega autoclave to have so many bags ready at once for inoc or do you store up?

It's not that much slower to work one at a time since you only are one person. On occasion I will have a stack of 9 bags in the corner of my hood  but I still just pull one off the stack at a time to inoc and seal and then remove from hood before going to next.

So glad to see that your sealer is on a riser. I started on a riser and a local friend said to just leave the bags on the table. I have yet to contaminate but I like the riser so air flows under/around the bag?
I only do 4-6 bags in front of my hood at a time and only open one at a time as bags are stupid to open cleanly and can take up some space.
Here's a mock up. I feel my risers bring me too close to the head of the unit. So I tend to use a smaller riser which may be a shoebox or Tupperware. Need a shorter rack.
Is a solid mass like a shoebox a bad riser?

A solid mass is a not the best choice for riser I would imagine. That's just more turbulence.

All of my comments on bag were just tips if what you are doing isn't working. I hope I didn't come across as that's the only way because clearly it isn't. Do what works for ya.

Smalltalk: Why did you make cuts into the bag instead of putting in the open top? I've found tape doesn't stick well to wrinkly pc'd bags.

:hereyougo:

I get your drift.

Three 75x's and one 1941. If I feel like a maniac I can have 200-250 bags ready every week.

But yes I sterilize them over a period of days and inoc them over time.

You're correct though, not much slower. I wish I was two people sometimes.

How much water are we talking? Open the lid and get more FAE to dry it up. Mist to replenish surface moisture if it dries out too much.
