bottle growers, you guys mix your grains and coir in bottles, or leave em separate to colonize then shake?

QM, stop starting shit for no reason. P9, stop giving in to this dude, you have nothing to prove, your contributions to this forum have already proven enough.
But shit can we keep this thread on topic. QM, how about you make a “QM complains about other people” thread in the pub??

Have you tried the latter? If so, how's it working for ya? Haven't tried that myself but I'm currently trying a sub for bottles with no coir that colonizes pretty fast and it's easily shakable. Will post results when I have them.

Hey guys, I got a ?
Ok, if I’m making shoeboxes and I mixup my grain spawn with some coco/verm then after I mix it up add a “top layer”
How long should I let this chill and colonize before I try to fruit it? I’m confused. Some say right away. When I do it right away I get like 7 mushrooms…never a nice canopy, never anything you could even call a canopy.
Do you guys think I’m not getting the coco wet enough? Ha ha
Idk? I’m getting frustrated. Lol

I always thoroughly mixed in the past with my bottle grows. But just randomly seeing those online all in one grow bags with inoculation ports, they all keep it separate. So it made me think... Mixing the coir in just makes it more difficult for our myc to find a foothold to revive on. so it may be better/faster to keep em separate then mix when the grains are colonized.

Spawn to fruit doesn't work well for shoeboxes in my experience, they dry out too fast without daily babysitting. So, I put the lids on my shoeboxes and store them in monotubs while they colonize. Once I see pins, I remove the lids, and let em fruit in monotubs.

This right here. I see too much of this nitpicking and baiting. I’m gonna start handing out bans if it keeps up.

Do you think that relative humidity has anything to do with that? I don't normally have problems getting a lot of fruit in shoeboxes and I don't put them in other tubs. I just keep the lid on until full colonization and then dubtub them. The relative humidity around the tubs is always 50-80% and now that our days are hot and nights are cold, I get a lot of condensation on the surface. The sides dry out faster and I end up with knots on the edge before they can form in the center.

Environmental factors are the key reasons. Some days the A/C is running, some days its not, some days the furnace is on, some not... All those different currents moving air around the shoeboxes and at different temps... I found that tossing them in monos just takes away that bit of variability. now I can grow them worry free year round without adjusting to changing environmental factors.

Seen it too and thought it was an interesting idea. Didn't think about doing it for bottles tho, now I'm curious. Bags can be kneaded for easy distribution of the grain spawn, I guess it will be harder in bottles but it's worth a shot.
