What do you think the actives shelf life will be in a non-dry fruit leather state? I wonder the same about chocolates.

I found an old grain jar of mine that I never cleaned out after spawning back in late March. There are still a couple colonized grains in the jar which I'm very excited about because it's a culture I no longer have spores for and it is pretty freakin' hard to find!

How likely do you think it is that I could put an 8 month old, dried up grain to agar and get it to grow out? I'm going to try it either way, I'm just wondering how high I should get my hopes up lol.

Well I'm about out of hope for this culture that has all but gone fucking extinct apparently. I have a media bottle full of mycelium that I'm assuming is dead - I took two sterile swabs, dipped them in to grab a clump of myc and swabbed a plate each, mostly to test its cleanliness but hoping to get some clean growth to work with. Not a damn thing has grown in 2 weeks (I guess it's good to know that it wasn't contaminated at least lol). Then I got excited as all hell because I found some old grains of it, plopped about 6 onto a plate expecting mycelium to jump off the grain and it hasn't done a damn thing in a week.

I did only lay the grains on top of the agar, maybe I should have smashed them into the plate better. I still have a few grains left that I'll smash into a new plate but damn this is frustrating...

:fuckyeah:

Not the best picture but I clearly should have waited an extra day before annoying everyone on here lol. One of my 8 month old, forgotten about and dried up spawn grains has sprouted! Now I should just need to take a couple transfers and send it to grains again.

I've been meaning to run some year long tests on that but life keeps doing it's thang and I haven't gotten to it. I know I've had chocolates around for over a year and noticed no potency loss. Wish I had the details on time in vs out of freezers and vac sealed vs zipped but I don't.

Something I’ve always been concerned about is the potential for toxic substances in the substrate ending up in fruiting body of the mushroom. Like vermiculite, it’s not supposed to really contain any heavy metals, but is the mycelium consuming the verm and ending up in the shroom?

I've got some year old vacuum sealed chocolates in my freezer right now that have lost absolutely zero potency - still 1/2 square face melters  :awesomenod:

I also have gummy bears both in the fridge in a ziplock and on my counter in a mason jar I'm testing. So far after 3 months neither have lost anything.

I've done a decent job talking my friends into capsules by praising their benefits. Hard to see a capsule degrade in decades if stored dark and dry. And provides the removal of bad taste which so many are seeking. But folks have their preferred way...

Normally I wouldn't ask this, because I've already learned from the shroomery school sergeant not to waste time spawning partially colonized jars, or to put my hopes in bacterial spawn.

However this tact was part of the Hispanica attempt and is showing a myc growth that is either

a) unusual for subtropica mycelium

I've seen 50-60 jars of subtropica but no such growth

B) a mold (not likely because very slow and primordia present)

C) the actual Hispanica myc

What is the superior, out of bad practices, for this:

A) topfruit, coir on top
B) spawn the healthy part, leaving the bottom
C) spawn normally (no)
D) long route: take back to agar, get clean growth

My bet is on topfruit or leaving it like it is, but I've seen pins stall out in Bacterial jars Very often.

So maybe long route is the only true answer

What's the verdict and if you kNow of anyone doing grain bags in steamers are you able to link me to it or at least let me know what grain / time they're using please? :durrhurr:

12 hours once core temp 112F is reached.  works with rye, wheat, oats ect...

at blazer:  pasteurization by definition is 140-160F for 1-2+ hours.  if you do that it is pasteurized regardless of what it is so should be fine for clay

That being the internal temp matters if it's something dense. Obviously.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Three of the six people charged with selling liquid psychedelic mushrooms online pled guilty in a federal court in Columbus this week, according to Kenneth Parker, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio.

The group sold the mushrooms in vials for $20 across the dark web from Nov. 13 to April 2020 through the monikers "TRIPWITHSCIENCE" and "PERFECTSHROOMS."

WTF is this? Were they selling LC or some kind of extract?

I know people try it but I don't really see anyone go from lc to a combo spawn bag of sub with grain already in it. It seems like it should work and would save loads of labor. :money:
