I haven't seen a lot of teks about obtaining a level sub. I just wing it and get as close as I can by using a gift card to smooth out the top . Be cool if some of you told me how you do yours?

I use my hand. However I once saw someone here use a flat folder or piece of card board to lightly press it.

Shake first to level it Then use a hand to fix it up Then something like a plastic cutting board to check

If you had something that fit your tub or tray, that had a reasonable/proportional amount of weight. Lay it on top and then shake, might self level.

I've always aimed for close to level, but never worried about the texture being 100% smooth... I've never had a perfect canopy though...

To make it level I start at all 4 bottom holes locations first, get those where I want then work into the center. Smooth, I just lightly pat the sub down with the back of my hand to just tamp it down slightly

Does the top (9-3) of this plate look good enough to make transfers from and then use those to inoculate with? It's an old GT plate I found that I'd love to make use of.

Only one way to find out. Take a few transfers, and watch it.

Anyone know if/what the limit is for a basic water extract? How many dry grams worth of active chemicals you could put into say 400 ml of water? I'm thinking I want to take all my stash and make a water extract out of it and freeze it in ice cube trays. Would like to make it as concentrated as possible to take up as little space in my freezer as possible.

Just had to throw out a very slowly colonising (but clean) jar of rye grain so I have more jars to use blenderless LI on. A noble sacrifice :'(

Hey need a quick simple answer. I need to whip up an LC. I got some LME. I read of people doing it by the spoon, I want to weigh it out. Someone give me a quick, by weight, ratio/recipe to mix up this LME into an LC. Please and thanks guys!!!!
***EDIT does 2g per 100Ml sound right? so 12g for my 600ml?

Nope, that would be a ridiculous lot of lme and the lc would be very dark. You only need a tiny amount of lme, from 0,2 to 0,3%. For instance, 1g-1,5g of lme per 500ml of distilled water, that's more than enough.

OK thanks, I had stumbled onto an old post of someone asking and being told by Pasty 2% was a good place to start.

I tried honey last time, I am actually about to test that LC. This time I got the LME so I want to use it. I was going to try that 2% and filter through a coffee filter but if it will be to dark, I don't want to do that. I want to be able to see my growth.

First pic is 0,15℅lme and 0,05% dextrose. Second is 0,3% lme.
I haven't tried the amount of lme you suggest but apart from the lc coming out very dark I guess it would slow down myc growth too.

I plan on sacrificing on of my PP5 pasty plates to inoculate a LC. going to take an LC needle full of water and sterile, heat tip glowing red, stick through plastic, shoot water onto culture, scrape around gently with needle and suck it all back up, thus creating what should be a sterile LI. I will pull out, heat up, stick tip in jar, let cool a bit then shoot all that LI into the LC. Should leave little vector for contamination to get in. I got a BEAUTIFUL and clean pasty plate for this

That would be a little under-nutritious I'd add 1,2g or 1,5g for that amount of water.
