This is Colombian B+ from a sporge syringe. Spawned to grain jars, colonized in shoebox sized rubbermaid w/ cow manure.
I trimmed some of pins growing on the sides today and they bruised blue. That gives me hope I guess. Maybe just very slow to fruit.
Maybe these will abort? Can I trim the fruits, case w/ verm/coco and hope for a better 2nd flush?

Let it go for a while longer 5 days is a bit soon but when you think it's stalled out you can pull them and hope for a better 2nd flush. But that looks like a carpet of lil boogers that will be hard to harvest if they abort like that and possibly mold soon after.

So how's everyone feel about glass petris?..
I was thinking about getting the 60mm so I could sterilize them *PRE POURED* inside a mason jar with a filter maybe..? And resusable And cause I do liquid culture alot now...

Agar work is the most fantastic dice roll wth genetics where you immediately produce new and retain old myc genes/traits/
Blessed work 🙂
Cultures fruiting on agar has changed my ideas about how to go about things and now I have questions
Basic questions about genetics
I think it will be valuable to a lot of growers to correctly understand this part of agar work. Calling all friends.
How correct are these statements:
"Mycelia that will fruit on agar when cloned from correctly will carry genetics that will make it more likely to fruit on anything"
"Tissue cloned from a fruit on a agar plate, carry genes that make the mycelia from that culture able to express the same fruit look, relative size of fruit, how easy/much it pins, under the same temperature conditions."
Applied to both exotic work and to cube growing
I think plate pins or fruiting on agar is more of an even response to evaporation, GE, and lack of nutrients. So think about a fully colonized plate like a fully colonized cake. As soon as the surface is covered the next step is digestion and then the mycelium creates a micro climate in the plate. As that gas exchange starts to progress the culture will start to slowly dry out and reproduction is triggered. I am not sure if the fruit in a plate is a good expression of a culture that will exhibit prolific expression when in bulk. I agree with Primal, it is more a last ditch effort for survival.

That's really too bad, because why do we expect a canopy fruit to be like itself when cloned, like we obviously do here at the shroomery all the time,
but not a agar fruit?
Is it *only* conditions, agar Vs well maintained tub, that decides ?
I mean I understand that environment matters a lot with fruits but won't it even often generally look the same (fat/skinny) when cloned?
Kinda before "conditions fail" during fruit maturation

Luv em, would be even cooler if I had a dishwasher though.
Cons:
- Gotta hand-dry them when you hand-wash to prevent spotting.
- You can't pour a stack as high because they are slippery and can vibrate from the hood. Less qty possible to pour at once by half or 2/3 because of this.
I just wrap a stack in foil and sterilize in the oven after washing.
60's are stupid tiny I don't like them.

Im really liking shaking grain jars right after dropping a wedge of agar in them. Growth is more explosive, rather than letting the wedge sit on grain for a few days before shaking.

Glass:I forget which size I have. I broke most of them while I was learning them. I love 'em.
Wrap a stack or individually in foil and PC with your agar bottle. Pour let cool and wrap. My chinese made amazon one's were all over the place as far as flatness, size, and thinness.
Less agar in your media and it explodes with shaking

You never tried no pours with them sandman? How do you store them afterwards? How's wrapping them? And with LC I use so few Its less than a a dozen a week, and it's pretty much why ide just like 60s, I probably won't even inoculate with plates anymore here soon. The Simi solid LC shit is actually hitting hard, and since I started wrapping my LC jars and inoculating them with the smallest sample possible shits been pretty solid.
And good to know rockymt., How do you feel about wrapping them? And you wrap them all before inoculation to store them?
I use gladwrap

Wrapping them is somewhat tricky. The lid is as tall as the bottom so the gap is actually on the bottom instead of the side. I could see clingwrap not sealing really good since it doesn't stick like parafilm does.
I move them to ziplock gallon bags after they cool. Actually about to go move 21 I poured earlier tonight right now.

They are annoying still figuring out why my contam rate is like 1/25. It's from wrapping them fucking twice I bet...
Wrapping as in sealing? I'm used to Tupperware's honestly.
After I pour and it's cooled and solidified I flip 'em over as it's two pieces. A deeper well that the "lid" fits over. So you gotta flip to parafilm that crack under it or try and wrap from above hoping the lid is "centered" for the crack to be even.
Yes, you need to seal and unseal to transfer, inoculate etc. Annoying and I'll never use as a master plate again. Why when tupperwares just pop and seal.
If you want a wide fucking area to work with . Sandwhich boxes, great for printing too.

Re glass petris: You have to wrap them or they'll contaminate easily. After I pour plates if I'm not using them all I wrap like 4 together with one piece of glad wrap and store them in a food container. I've had plates keep for 10 years that way and still be pristine.

My 2cents on glass petris...
I am enjoying using mine. I bought 90mm first(Too big), 60mm second(Too small!) and finally ended up on 75mm...just right!! I wrap in foil and bake at 450F for an hour to sterilize. Manually dry after washing to avoid spotting as mentioned above by others. I pour, set and wrap. I've never tried any no pour teks.

Is it ok to take a transfer of aerial mycelium on a germ plate?
My germ plates have fluffy white myc originating from the spores and a translucent leading edge which I’m not 100% sure on.
Is it an ok idea to take myc from the fluff and transfer to slightly lower nutrient plates to encourage rapid growth?

If you PC them in aluminum foil, they will come out filled with condensation. In the oven, they obviously stay dry. If anyone knows how to PC them without them filling with moisture, please chime in.

Small benefit - i put the rack I am working on into the oven too. Probably not significant difference, but why not...

Anyone ever try those beside primal?

Anyone ever experience a small area of sub in front of each bottom hole in a mono drying out?
Im dialed in using the micropore tape method, but I have 4 small areas that keep drying out on me. Basically 92% of the tub is in perfect surface conditions.
Should I stack 3 layers of tape on the bottom holes and two layers on the tops?
