Would be interesting to know when a sludge is too dense, starch water will do for both LC and agar. Is it known how much they like and how easily they break down starch?

I recently knocked up a starchy mess of a 4oz grain jar that pc water got into and it colonized np.. it was a lot slower as it had to eat it’s way through the starch but eventually got there, so I bet it works fine as well

I just wanted to stop by and say hi. I had to take a break for a while while getting the new house situated. Also got the Covid. so that sucked. But now I am starting a fall grow focusing on some Gourmet and some outdoor beds. I also will run a few gems like Playa and Nats and Fahts PEA+. More to come soon.

I don't have much hope for a reverse slurry tek, it's more of an afterthought, but I am interested to see how fucked up and sopping wet I can make grains and still see growth.
I really doubt that sopping wet/starchy grains is a big deal so I'm going a bit overboard. I'd like to do slurry without having to use a sterile blender though so we'll see.
They were sterilized today, making LI tomorrow.

I put way to much gypsum in 5 quart jars when preparing the grains. They had blobs of gypsum in the jars i put x's on them cause they where colonizing super slow. It thought i mite have to toss em. Well today i check on them and they look really great!

A black rye grain.. not seen this before. Any ideas? Not sure if its spread around or not looks like possibly just one.
Picture makes it look like part of grain above and to the left have the same darkness but it’s not visible in person.

That's the reason I'm moving away from wbs, I was getting loads of black sorghum in the bag that turned to nasty black mush once hydrated.

It looks like some sort of insect larve is inside of it/poking out.

I’d be more concerned if it were consistent but it’s a single grain in 100+ qts so I’m not convinced it’s an issue with the grain (been using the same brand for years with 0 issues). Wonder what caused it though.

Lol yeah it does now you mention it. I’ve inspected closer and it’s just part of the grain.

Yeh this shitty wbs I get has got worse to be honest, it never had this black sorghum, it's progressively got worse. I also noticed the black sorghum almost always forms cobweb even direct from the pc. So I thought it was my old pc not hitting pressure, bought the new 20L pc and pc'ed for 3 hours at 18psi, same thing.

So I just inoculated and tried to swirl these things, they're pretty much a solid mass so we'll see lol. I went a bit over board on these.

Based on what we see with agar, I don't think they will colonize properly. They will cover the surface but won't penetrate the core.
That's my bet.
