use multiple water baths for dirtier specimens. I've done up to 4 dunks in sterile water jars before dropping wild fruits to plates. it works well. swirl em around good in the first few then just a quick dunk in the last one.
never thought of this!
thanks

I've done iso and hand sanitizer that eas mainly ethanol with success.
Ya'll sterilized water works perfectly fine. Chemicals damage mycelium. Water doesn't.
I break off off cap,, take a 1 inch of of stem, just spray off the fruit with alc and get a sample from the inside. Sometimes I'll spray the fruit, break it in half, then take the new piece to the front of the flow and break it again. Really no need for bleach. And a soak for 10 seconds screams bad idea. I don't know why you would use sterile

I just do a quick dunk for anything tough to sample. My Ganoderma Tsugae was a good example; the fruits grew from buried roots so they were riddled with bugs and grass aside from being woody as fuck. If you must finger fuck the sample, then I would sanitize the outside a bit.

Water is the greatest solvent and beverage!
Water works well. Use 2 different blades if you want to be anal for clones. I tend to clean best I can on agar, go to grain, and back to agar. Wasteful and will switch to BRF pucks.
Here's a wild cube that was cleaned by using a fine guitar string. Can also just go surgical and use a pinhead. Germ plate was the rainbow. This is a T1.

What I like about the water idea is the thought of diluting out contams. Even if they are riding *on* the tissue and that they probably attempt to "hold on" to the surface.
Do we know anything scientific or conclusive about how contams stick to living tissue like fruits or mycelium?
Do contams live inside the fruits too, making cleaning the surface only a partial move?
The people who produce swabs that are so clean you can put the entire thing down on a plate, and get a pristine T1 transfer from it, they definitely have a control and understanding that I personally don't have yet.
It's annoying that fruits inside tubs can be as dirty as they sometimes are, so my interest is in what cleans the surface while retaining viable myc, both for clones and for establishing clean growth from wild/filthy traders, where the same thing is a issue
Gonna buy some sterile water and see how clean transfers I get, dipping one or more times.

If you don't know how to make sterile water you got bigger issues
Contams will produce biofilms and other cool ways to adhere to any surface. Unless it's a mycoparasite. I would assume the inside of the fruit should be sterile. I'm not clean by any stretch and even outside prints are relatively clean.
When you print are you moving the caps around, using a jar/bowl? Discard the first few hour print and anything on the outside is gone with those spores. Start a new print.

Here's a mature fruit from the semi flowerpot
Not really looking like itself! But there's the slimyness, and the small tendency towards a bump at the top

Anybody here using those sfd stickers?
I've got a bunch but I'm dubious, they seem so flimsy.
I've experienced some filter failures lately so I'm hoping these things aren't a gimmick.

I've used em on a few runs so far. Seem to work but I was paranoid and slapped tap over each sticker.

I just ordered another 128 because they're great. I was skeptical at first too, but they are the shit.
