ive been using eco earth and it seems good. i wanted to try mother earth on amazon since its cheaper, but the reviews are kinda bad. something about high salt content. does this affect shrooms or is it a plant thing?

No way is this tomentose growth. It's nearly a centimeter tall. It's huge. Plus bacteria is unlikely to cause metabolites on a plate IME. And as I said, the same thing appeared on the sibling transfer of the pictured plate. A mycoparasite fits the story better than bacteria.
I took some better photos, and the whole plate looks like it got overcome by mold while it was in the fridge. The ring pattern is interesting, but beside the point. The culture may have had hiding mold even before I refrigerated it.

I’m not sure about shrooms but salt content is definitely a plant thing.
You can rinse it out though.

So what if it's a cm tall, is that clone or ms? Are you saying the blob is mycogone fruitbody?
I just don't see where the mold is suppose to be. Or where cube myc isn't. It's clearly stressed

I've been really happy with the Earth Juice brand XL blocks. Hold extra moisture also. Had to bump up my water 500ml

I just bought a bunch of coir and I probably ought to have gpt the top shelf. Stuck with the same as last but I got a Grow It block and I think it's way better.

I don't know if I should be asking this here or using the agar thread
When you start spores on agar, how long do you wait until you take your first transfer? Do you allow the plate to fully colonize or just take your transfers immediately when you see sectors you like? These swabs I used came with a few small hitch hikers not sure if that makes a difference.
The brown spots are sediment in my oat water from venting my PC. Also anybody recognize the blob in the lower right plate about 10 o clock? It almost looks like fruit tissue, thick, raised a couple of mm, definitely a contaminant because it's not on my streak path.
Lastly, while I have your attention, what characteristics do you look for when doing your T1's?
And yes I'm using plant grafting tape right now to wrap because my budget is squeezed.
Thank you for helping a tard like me.

Spacebaby this is probably a bit late (3 days). But this is how I've been doing my lids.
I had extra filtrete high end furnace filters so I ripped out the filter sheet. Laid it flat and traced circles using the mason lid and just cut them out. The inner ring compresses them down adequately and I don't use any RTV so I can replace them easily. After a PC or two they stay put really nicely. Just a normal 1/4" hole underneath. Any reason I shouldn't be doing it this way?

I usually take transfers when the germination spots are between pencil eraser and dime sized.
You can do them as soon as you see growth if you want though, or wait til they’re grown out more like your plates. It’ll all work.
I try to take very small wedges for t1 too.

does 4qt spawn sound like a good amount for a 50qt mono, or could i get away with 3qt? i've been doing 2qt in my sweaterboxes & 3qt in my 30qt mini mono, but i want to run some larger monos this next run.

I don't know enough to say. I like the quality of the SFDs I have, but because of their thickness the damn lids just open not infrequently enough. I just started using dime-sized pieces of SFD and the glue and that way I can use the silicone seal rings I saw mentioned, which I like alot.

many different takes on that question but you prolly have places to transfer from developed enough now.. the sooner the better from how I understand it.

I'm gonna run out of shoeboxes for all my jars of spawn, but I have this under the bed tote that's like 2 monotubs in area, but half the height, little taller than a shoebox.
What you guys think about doing a massive box like that?
Also do you guys just add fresh shrooms to the dehydrator as they come or do you wait until the other ones are dry first. I've been just adding as I pick, but I think its been making the dryer ones wetter and taking longer.

i think you'd be fine as long as you've got headroom for mushrooms & proper FAE. i fruit in sweaterboxes a lot & it's really only at the end that i need more vertical space for mushrooms. you'll probably need quite a bit of spawn tho if it's got that much surface area
as for dehydrating, i will typically harvest the first flush & leave it in in a paper bag in the fridge & then dry them along side the second flush. you can totally dehydrate them as you go though

I think they're a bit taller than shoeboxes so headroom is probably good. I just never done such a huge box before and wondered about microclimate or something but unless my jars all contam ill need it lol.
You don't think the moisture from the new ones will be absorbed by the dryer ones? I got these medium pins from last night, but they still seem maybe wet, like they Crack fine, but if I take some of the stem material I can roll it into a ball in my fingers.

I don’t know if it’s still a thing or if it’d even be useful in that situation but I wonder if bubble wrap tek would be any good, idk? Not personally used it just came to mind
