And i know the grains not perfect, i sterilize 8 quarts in a bag about a time. Ive switched bag to pressure cooking after steaming after coming from a pc ha. Idk ive been having some trouble getting these bigger bags super clean. Ive been trying to run my pc for 4 hours, hence the overcooked grain, but still tends to be kinf of bacterial, i figure just because of how big the bag is.... i usually run 2 to a 23presto and its really tight. This week im trying 1 8quart grain bag per presto for 4 hours, and this time im putting quarters BACK on my rockers to get 17psi at least.
Im guessing the ape spawn trichs out before a second flush, but on the other hand the liquid in the bag id suprisingly clear, non yellow, conpared to other bscterial bags ive had.

switching to bags seems like quite a learning curve. i totally get why people do them, but for me jars are just way more practical. i don't have a flow hood & working with bags in an SAB sounds like a nightmare lol. hopefully the one bag to a presto turns out better for you. i know bags can take longer than jars so i think lessening the load per PC should help there
i've had clear liquid in mine too, the last tubs i spawn had noticeably clear liquid in the jars when i spawned them. it didn't smell off at all either, which i know isn't a for sure indication that it's clean but i was surprised at how moist it was. the tubs are colonizing really nicely rn but i'm fully expecting trich to come after the first flush

Ya and it smells really good through the filter also. And if i get a decent yield first flush i really dont care. And yes switching to bags has been crazy,My jars were always so perfect ha. i really widh i had an aa, probably my next investment, an 1941x or whatever. Im just impatient anf hate doing thing over and over... This is my life now ha so i try to make it easier on myself, but always seems to get harder..

yeah i feel it. i'd prefer clean spawn obviously & it's definitely annoying to run into a string of bad luck with spawn but mushrooms are mushrooms so if it gives a solid first flush i can't really complain. i feel you there, it's a rabbithole. i started thinking i'd never get a pressure cooker & now i'm here thinking my 16qt is getting tight. it's crazy how much you start to prioritize it once you get into growing mushies. i'm tryna build a martha here soon so i can get into growing gourmets. it's way too dry here to just fruit openly but i want to grow my own supply so bad

And me personally ide build a small room rather than the tent, same size, out of foam boards from home depot. They come in different thicknesses. You could use pvc or wood to frame it out. That just me tho. You could really easily pick up 5 8*4 boards and a couple pieces of wppd and hardwear and make a closet sized grow room. Put a couple shelfs in there, , ya man.
I wish i could grow more cubes but apperantly theres too many in town or something ha. And i cant grow them if noone will eat them. Must be an oregon thing. I can barely shove them down peoples throats these days. But i guess between those and the axid and dmt people are juat like "QM weve had enougj mannn". Its all good i like the gourmets, i cant seem to grow enough of those! And i meet alot of peiple, and pur interactiona are alot more...normal haha. Its nice. Its crazy tho ha you wouldnt believe hoe many peipl ask about psilocyin at farmers markets. Im just like... no, not yet.

I've never used bags much. I just really dont like single use plastics and try to avoid them whenever possible (especially for the oceans) The cannabis industry is a great example of where an industry went legal and single use plastics surrounding the products just ballooned. On that note, (and I'm probably preaching to the choir here) you can get autoclavable agar plates that are re-usable here and here if you can't or don't want spend $ on glass.
But, I do recognize that at a certain point when you're scaling some of these plastics become necessities. Call me old fashioned but I'm going to try to use jars as long as I can. I have the same issue with tub liners and spend a lot of time thinking about a way to create a re-usable tub liner or some way to remedy blocking airflow reaching those areas in a way that is sustainable and doesn't add extra labor / time to the process while remaining cost efficient.
If you're having bac problems w/ your bags maybe consider switching back to jars and going through your process the same way and seeing the kind of quality that you end up with. Might not even be your bags or PC time at all but something you're doing that's procedural or innate to your process. I'm no expert here obviously, but food for thought.
@brownbear oats are lookin good bud.

Some words of encouragement... I recently switched to bags in a SAB. I've done 2 SAB sessions so far, with 6 bags each. First season, all contaminated, but I learned what to do and what not to do. Next session, all 6 colonized clean and are a few days from pinning. I shook the bags a few times to make sure they were clean before spawning. Now I'm looking to do another 24 bags this week. Have a 160+ qt tote thats quite tall and wide helps.

oh yeah, a whole room would be sweet for growing anything, unfortunately i have roommates & not much space to set up a larger scale personal grow. it would be so great to have a dedicated space for all my mushies one day
everyone must be growing them up in oregon lol. my friends are usually very down for free mushrooms, but no one here really grows it seems

this is great to hear munchauzen!! so you didn't have to make a double SAB or anything to make it a workable height for bags? it makes sense you'd want a taller one but that's cool it didn't take any weird mods to make it work. did you just have to be extra careful while working in the SAB?

I do indeed.
In the last few months vetween switching to the 3t long bags, as well as steaming trials, and going from 6-8+ full quarts in the bags has lead to much less cinsistency in my production, leqding to small amounts of bacteria in alot of my spawn. And the numver i actually lose to contam in very low, less than 5%.
And actually i dont usually have a problem with a littl3 bacteria. How i actually lost my few sawdusr bags lately was by using thise suoer tiny 1-3lb spawn bags from meyers, no matter hiw hard i try i cant keep them sealed, in the future im using zipties or tape. Idk what it is about thise tiny little bags but they dont want to stay sealed. Ive lost like 10 chesnut bags in the last few months. Maybe another here or there.

those non unicorn bags with round filter or regular square filters like regular bags?
Because unicorn smaller sized bags are actually like 30% thicker than the large sized bags. They might be too thick for your cheap sealer or do you have a nice sealer?
8 qts is too much grain for a bag. I don't even know how you can mix that. I keep it under 4 qt/6lb for large bags.

Theyre square. Theyre about the size of a quart jar just taller. And ya they must be thicker. And no i got a little cheapo sealer, a couple of cheap 18inchers And a cheapo 16inch... think zipties or tapes my best bet thwre..
And ya i think i have wau yo much grain this round. This is the second round ive done 8 quarts in the 3t longs and its pushing it... I need to figure out my unhydrated to hydrated wheat ratio so i have it a bit more accuratly. A quart of what equals like a pound right? How much dry what to make a quart of hydrated? Ypu put 6 quart in a 5-7lb grain bag? Or? The 3tlong are rated for 7-9lb. At least in meyers
Hey ALSO
I shluldny use a speed controller for my centrifugal fan...? I should get a controller meant for centrifugal fans so i dont burn it out??

Alas, the only feed store down the road is tractor supply.
Also, since I have the distribution channel already in place, all set up for reishi, I am moving into bags. I believe that the best equipent is the least costly in the longer run. You perhaps have some guidance on manufacturer for impulse sealers or bags?

Speed controllers and squirrel cage fans: Name a more complicated duo... .Alright so they have a winding to start the load with a capacitor and a winding to run the motor. On some of these blowers if you control the speed you activate the start winding (tied to speed/torque of motor) and it overheats the motor.
I have successfully used a speed controller on one blower, and then another blower I did it and it nearly caught on fire and ruined the blower. It actually melted the controller casing.
Nearly all the dayton blowers have a big old NOT FUR SPEED CONTROL on the data sheet.
The proper way to control the air with these blower is to block part of the intake. This keeps the start winding from being activated while changing airflow.
And I thought I put that I add 4 qts into my large bags or roughly 5-6lbs.
A cheap sealer wont seal the thick small bags for sure. I've successfully stapled them closed once lmao...Tape, zip tie whatever.
