1:5 is too wet if it's just straight coir that doesn't get mixed with verm.

I was using 4 quarts to 650 grams of coir and then mixing in a 2-3 qts of verm to bring it to field capacity.

I think it would be very tricky to initially hydrate coir to the perfect level by itself. It's easier to overshoot and dry it down.

but 1 quart = 900ml so you are actually adding more if you are doing it x4 to a 650g brick. that comes out to 3,600ml. when a x5 comes out at 3,250?

Yes 1 gallon is too much so less is also too much, if you aren't adding any verm to bring it down. But I added verm.

It doesn't matter how much water you add if you are going to mix in verm, you could do 2 gallons if you wanted and just mix in a barrel of verm till you get it where you want it.

That's why I would avoid trying to nail it on the initial hydration so you can mix in verm till perfecto.

I hate to be the only one commenting on this but if this is what the dish looks like without being obscured by the lid I'd wager that was contaminated with mold.

Those bags are looking very bad.

I mean for a 2 month old plate from a cross doesnt seem that bad too me. Think those are T2 from ms also..

And ape spawn blobs like that all the time, it even happened on one of your jars the other day mushboy? Im suprised the block and water in it isnt more yellow actually. I do plan on fruiting that thing lolll

Yea the whole thing has that thick appearance of... Id call it white mold, just a colloquial term for a various white colored molds mixing in with the culture. It's a lot like what I would think a verticillium or mycogone infected culture would look like. The thick parts have that bubble look, but so does ape so ehh.

It aint good

Adjusting waters levels is the only thing that ever worked for me to get to proper fc. Too wet the first time, use less and so on until you get it right.

You know ive considered verticillium, if your talking the plate. But what does vert look like completely developed?

And it could very well be mycogone, which is bacteria.

And ya ape does brain out huh?

You talking the ape bag mush?

I am going to fruit it! Tomorrow now lol cause i went to rebelution last night and it fucked me up.

.... you know someone could have correcred me and said mycogone isnt bacteria...

I cant find any pics of developed vert on petris or grains. I know what it looks like on sub and shrooms.

I thougjt mycogone was bacteria, its a mold. P9 is right, plates may have mold, block definetly has mold.

Lol still might fruit it... but now im double guessing it. Bah

Finally got to dig through your signature links p9 - really solid helpful clean content I really appreciate you contributing that.  Gave me a lot of clarity on a few items and answered many unanswered questions I had.

Half of me wishes I saw Josex's poke tek (BRF pucks) 8 weeks ago, the other half of me is really glad I got all that agar experience in.

Ended up buying antibiotic agar for when I start wild prints / unknown swabs and pitching most of my dirty cultures, just cuz.  Hillbillys coming down the pipe next.  Swabs taken from here.

I honestly dont use anitbiotic because of what bod ssid in this thrrad.
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26157203/fpart/all/vc/1
I think josexs brf tek os more promising. Im just to lazy to do it ha. Ive only had one or two cultures i thought it might be necessary anyay.

Also just a side thought but isnt it kind of interesting that were talking about ver, mycogone amd scalloping and ive experienced it with ape and you have with melmac and pe, i think you said.
Im still wondering what strain that was that gonepearshaped posted.
I wonder where sandman has seen the scalloping...

I only say that because PE varieties, ive heard, are more prone to vert and bubbling, which resembles mycogone. Idk just a little sidethought
I had.

:Edot!!
I didnt post the link for why i wouldnt use antibiotic.

this looks a lot like the late stages of what i've been getting on my oats if i just don't bother spawning the jars & they consolidate too long. the bottom left corner of that pic is too familiar. the thick creamy myc & the sliminess of the rest of it has been happening in my jars that i was assuming were bacterial. it looks like it's blobbing in the bag too. how did it look earlier in the colonization process? my grain will look fine until the first shake at 20-30% & then go to shit

i've spawned some gnarly stuff that had the same signs (usually a bit less extreme bc i didn't let them sit for more than 2 weeks) & still gotten decent fruits. trich always sets in around the end of first/start of second flush on those jars though, which is why i'm assuming it's bacteria since it doesn't come right away. have you spawned any previous bags that looked like that?

Have you grown ape before? The mycs usually a bit thicker as it is. All the blobs developed within just a few dsys actuallt, it looked much better before.

Abd the problem with one of the bags in the second pic is they were over cooked. Most of my bags actually look more like the one on the right, the one on the left is over cooked and a few days ahead actually.
Thwy are wheat.

I noc'd up 12 bags of oats today. 6 bags of reishi and 6 bags of pink oyster. Each bag received 10 cc's of LI. These triple cleaned oats look real nice. No dust, no sticks, no seeds, and no cracked corn. And to think I paid $15 for a 50 lb. bag and they are as clean as grocery store grain. $15 is the same price I would pay for those dirty oats from TSC.

i've spawned ape but it colonized the tub so slowly that it ended up getting some trich. my spawn looked like that tho, but it was fully colonized w clear mycelium before it got the trich. my other spawn that looks like that has almost always fruited before trich sets in, so i think it's just because ape is so slow that i didn't get fruits

gotcha. yeah idk, they don't look healthy to me honestly, at least in my experience with grain with those looks. you should deffo spawn them just to see how they do though bc i find that as long as the culture is fast i'll get fruits
