Glad I'm not the only one who writes notes on stuff for people to fuck off.
How strong of an induction type element do you need for 15psi or at that point best to just make a banjo burner?

If there's air mixed in with the water vapor, you'll reach 15 PSI before you reach the desired temperature. (The partial pressure of air in the pot, plus the partial pressure from the boiling water.) You'll be running cold. If you have a thermometer and valve in the PC, then it's less important, but you will still lose some heat transfer--hot pressurized steam can touch cool surfaces and condense, which releases a lot of heat to the surface. Then that space is immediately replaced by more hot pressurized steam and the heat transfer continues. Surfaces heat up very quickly. But air just gets in the way of this interaction.

DERRAYLD said: Yes, it must be a constant flow of steam for a minimum of 10 minutes.
No, that's just something we tell newbies. If the flow of steam isn't changing at all, it means the air is already purged. (As the air reduces, the quality of the steam will change. Until it stops changing.) But humans can't be expected to perceive the changes with our eyes/ears/hands. So we make guidelines and use timers.

Justweed said: I mean wouldn't the air be the first thing to vent when the rocker rocks? It weighs less than steam
Steam is actually a lot lighter than air. But I think it's safe to assume they are mixing pretty well, since boiling is turbulent. But I could be wrong about them mixing, because it doesn't explain why there seem to be occasional temporary bursts of steam during purging.

My induction maintains at least 15 PSI in a 17 qt cooker (more surface area needs more heat input for equilibrium) at 30% power. It's a fairly new range, so I assume it's powerful. I'll look up the wattage if you need.
If you're using induction, you can put dish towels on or around the pressure cooker. That way it radiates less heat away and needs less heat from the range to stay at equilibrium.

Concerned about this LC. Note unexpected coloration at liquid level line. Bad thing or myc at "tide line." ❓

Got any feedback?

Could I get the wattage for your induction please? Seeing if I can find a single induction top that would be suitable..

the oats definitely get mushy on the inside. i follow crackatoa’s tek, i’ve even added them in & boiled for 5 minutes before removing from heat just to see if it would cook them more. i dry them in the fridge overnight & they always come out dry on the outside but mush on the inside. idk if they are horse racing oats, but here’s my bag. maybe that’s what’s fucking me up. it doesn’t say anything about racing horses

& these are generally what my agar plates look like. maybe they’re fucked & i’m just missing something but i’ve had some plates that look great to me, & i’ve tried josex’s PF puck to get rid of any potential bacteria before i took these transfers.

the last few plates got overgrown bc i kinda fell off the wagon in terms of cult, but i just cut around the edges when taking wedges for my jars

I'm sure the answer is "no", but here's a dumb question:
Can spore syringes be 100% contamination free if the fruit was grown under in a sterile environment? I don't see how this can be achieved. Maybe if the fruit is grown in a bag and harvested in a sterile lab...

It could be done. Seems challenging.
I have purchased spore syringes sold as contam free. I saw nothing to prove otherwise

It seems possible if you sterilized the sub and spawned/harvested in a bag with a hood.

Hazy: did you dry them on a screen or towel before you refrigerated them?
Jessica: I agree with AKA but for safest results, one would fruit in vitro (in a bottle) but also make the print with the fruit on a grate above the foil. With a flow hood it would probably actually work.

I can't find the manual but I'm sure enough to bet money that each burner goes up to 2000 watts. The manual said the power levels are linear (setting 5 is 50% power). I run it at 10 to get the water hot fast, but turn it down later because I worry about cracking the glass. It's more than I need.
Equilibrium at full temp requires 600 watts. A 600 watt induction would be painfully slow, the weakest that would work in theory. 1000 watts would work better but I'd be too impatient. 1400 watts (my setting 7) still feels strong. It's too powerful for most cooking.
And I just did the math to check how much power is theoretically needed to boil 3 liters of water in 15 minutes, and found 1115 watts is the answer. I think that roughly confirms the my above estimates. (In real life it would take a bit longer due to losses.)
To do this calculation (bringing 3000 mL water from 20°C to 100°C), Google can be used if you know the units: search for (100-20) calories * 3000 / (15 minutes) to watts

pear-shaped: not every time, but at least for a few jars of spawn i let them dry on a screen for a few hours before loading into jars. other times i would leave the strainer in the fridge & just mix it around occasionally over that time. they definitely seemed dry enough

Thank you mate. I found a 2Kw single induction burner, that could work then?

QUESTION:
I had a bag of JMF grain, fully colonised and then a pink spot appeared.
My friend just called me to say there’s fuck loads of mushies in the bag but you can see pink in the bag.
What is that pink stuff and is it dangerous? I haven’t actually seen the bag yet so don’t know the severity.
Haven’t had mushrooms in months and my head is fucked at the moment otherwise I wouldn’t bother to even consider being gross lol.
