Pic tax is only required in the potd.
If you just tell people you’re growing enokii 99% off the general population couldn’t tell the difference between cubes and those

I think you wanted to say pioppinos. These are really identical to cubes. Even those who grow could easily fall for it
Cubes:

Pioppinos

(Oh and one more, you would be surprised how enokis are also really, REALLY similar to panaeolus )

Cultivated enoki look nothing like cubes though.
Cultivated enoki look more like tamps. Have you ever seen enoki? Look like white spaghetti noodles with a small cap.

If you fruit them without air restriction or the commercial "enoki collar" they look like cubes especially the velvet foot variety. They look just like cubes and chestnuts.it is crazy how different enoki are without the fae restriction.

Those might be passable as wavy caps, but don't appear to be cubes at all.
Wild enoki is considered a different strain then commercially grown enoki at this point.

I asked this same question recently. Just take a sterile swab, either store bought or Q-tip PCd, and jam it into the gills. You will see spores on it.

A little quality of life suggestion, you will want a little platform to put the cap on, and situate the cap on the edge of whatever you've set it on. that way you can safely and cleanly get the swab level with the gills, and get the whole cotton head nice and covered in spores. If you work from over top of it, you tend to only get the tip of the swab spored up.
If you don't use the platform, and the cap is just on your work surface, you're more likely to touch the swab stem or your fingers to the work surface. and sometimes you slip and run the tip of the swab off the gills and onto the work surface. so elevating it and situating it on the edge will help get an even swab and prevent any accidental slipups.
rudimentary SAB diagram

this also helps you to deposit the swab tip inside individual gills, running it up and down and swirling it around at the same time. instead of just mashing it up against the gills.

Yeah there’s a certain size where it gets much easier to swab. Once they’re big enough to fit in between the gills the cap lasts a lot longer. I usually end up with the gills mushed out of the cap like an avocado peel at the end.
Also like munch said be careful to not touch the handle to anything. So many swabs I get have contam all over the wooden part, anytime I bury the swab it makes me nervous.
I wish I knew who made them but I just pulled a couple swabs I’ve had over a year out last week and they were both perfectly sterile and germed within two days. So so nice.

Getting some new genetics in today. I'll only be trying one at a time. Any suggestions on which I might like to try for my first PE-ish grow?
I'll have APE revert, Tidalwave, Melmak revert, and PE#6 to choose from.
Might have liked to have gotten non-revert versions but alas, that is what I could find. I'm more interested in PE level of strength rather than appearance though.
