Overfilled some bags now I can't shake 1 or 2 of them for shit, kneeding isn't helping so I guess I'll just wait for the colonization.
Forgot how much I enjoyed using bags, managing to pc 4kg of spawn at once now vs 1kg in jars. I have the moisture content down as well compared to years ago when my sorghum needed gypsum to keep it loose.

I think you ruined the heat treatment on your saw. But yeah, I'm not hopeful about that unless you bury it. You might get something.

If mycelium grows at all I will be shocked. I did it to piss off a friend, and as a very unscientific experiment. I was just gonna toss to bags and cvg in compost, so why not?

That spawn looks totally colonized to me, unless the bare part is upside down on all the pieces.
You’ll know in a day or two if it’s gonna work

It was a good learning experience, I'll have to plan my movements a little bit better next time and probably go with a different layout for where I have things positioned. Anyway, I guess its time to play the waiting game and see if they colonize or contam.
I've got one jar that hit 100% a day or two ago. Two others are a few days behind because I waited to shake them. And the remaining jar looks like this:

Its looked about the same for the past 12 hours. Is this just totally screwed or worth taking taking the quart to a shoebox? Also, does that look like a something really dirty in my oats problem, insufficient prep problem, or bad sterile technique problem?

looks a bit bacterial to me the way they're pressing against the glass, especially if its stalling out like that totally fine to go to a shoebox, kinda hard to know where it may have been introduced but looks like a grain prep issue

Hey guys
Just a quick noob question. (I apologise for my retardation) Can I prepare black/brown rice the same way as oats for grain spawn? Boil, dry and add to jars for PC.

Probably not. Oat is prepped in the way it is because it’s a larger grain. I would maybe try soaking and straining for field capacity.

More like Bird seed right? Give it an 8 hour soak or so if it’s not ready a little longer. It’s my first time doing grain jars so thanks for the advice.

I recently had to move all my bags to a new location where it was hot as shit for like 3-4 days before I had a chance to hook up some ac units . Now all my bags smell bacterial and got bacterial looking pools of yellow water in bags . Should I try and top fruit? Or trash em. It’s like 60 of em don’t really want to trash em

I spawned tubs on the porch tonight, cause it's so hot.
Closing ventilation for transfers suck too. 28C today

I put a 5 kilo block of coir in a 30 gallon rubbermaid. then I'll fill a 5 gallon bucket with hot tap water, then add just under half of another bucket, so I'm adding around 7 gallons of water. Pour it on, maybe let it sit a minute, then start break it apart into smaller chunks, and turning it by hand. I use both my hands and get my hands elbow deep and turn the whole thing from the bottom up to mix the whole thing. after sufficient mixing, I'll let it sit 10 minutes to hydrate, then mix again. Repeat this until you don't see any dry pieces anymore. When I portion it out, I make sure to keep turning it from the bottom so that the bottom doesn't get sopping wet.
fyi, a 5 kilo block makes just enough for 10 monos, with a tad leftover.

you can also do it with small bricks
