This was my assumption yeah.

Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms suggests Shiitake -> Oyster - > Wine Cap sawdust spawn and I'm going to try it that way but also was thinking about going Shiitake - > Tamps -> Azure spawn for instance.

I was reading an academic paper last night that saw a lot of good use out of mixing SMS with Peat for casing buttons.  Was thinking I might try that with my Tamps too.  Or if I wanted to case one of my outdoor beds.

So for both the blue and purple latch sterilite 66qt tubs they make a corresponding 32 qt model with the same top dimensions but it's a few inches deep, see image. I'm wondering if, to save space, anyone's tried letting the substrate colonize in these 32 qts, and moving it to a 66 qt only once it's beginning to fruit. the bottom interior dimension of 32 qt is 20 5/8" x 14", while for the 66 qt it's 19 7/8" x 13 3/8". if the bottom dimensions were identical, it'd be a dream come true, but i thought maybe it'll shrink a little bit by then, or maybe I can force it in.

just food for thought, I'll probably buy some later this week. at worst I can just run shorter varieties like averies in them. but (at the cost of increased workload) you could really up your space with something like this, even moving back to a 32 qt after a first flush

I like oats because they're so easy to prep. No wash, just dump them in and boil, and they're hard to overcook. They're cheap, and you can find them anywhere. I don't like oats because I find it much harder to evaluate clean growth vs dirty growth. Wheat is just as abundant and cheap, requires just a little rinse, and the mycelium behaves very characteristically on it IME. Plus they get fat as fuck. I've stopped buying oats since playing with wheat more, it's just as good as rye from my view.

Most importantly wheat takes up less volume which means more inoculation points and more grain by volume.

I'll say oats have done me no wrong, they're all I've ever known and used for my whole time in cult
They are cheap and I'd say that's about their only upside for me-
quality varies heavily per bag,  it has a lot of dust, debris, straw, random bits of corn and feed pellets
I don't necessarily enjoy boiling large quantities of oats, and it has a lot less noc points than millet
why not explore and learn about other grains  learning is fun and I'm a sucker for low effort prep
I hit up a bunch of local places, no white millet to be found.
for a 50lb bag I did find $62.5 for golden, $45 for japanese, and $40 for the browntop
wheat sure does look pretty, might need to look for that as well I assume it wouldn't be as illusive
