I'm new and started with uncle ben's from a couple MSS maybe two months ago. I've read A LOT since. I actually have a couple 12qt tubs going right now and one has a hell of a lot of pins after only 8 days, I'm shocked.
I have no desire to continue with UB bullshit, it's way way too wet if nothing else.
So, my plan in to clone the biggest baddest of the 4 shrooms I expect to get from these tubs and move to a better grain.
I already have agar plates, scalpels, an incubation box, blah.
My real question is for someone new to this, for a spawn grain would hard wheat or rye berries be a better option? Planning to buy a big ass bag in the next couple days and I can't decide what would be best for me.

Yeah, wheat seems to be more popular in more recent stuff I've been reading. They're ABOUT (within a buck or two for 25lbs) the same price for me. I just wasn't sure wtf is the CURRENT recommendation because I've been reading threads (and books) made decades apart

They're both good options. Rye is softer but larger. I currently use brew bags to line 5gal buckets, fill half with wheat, then fill to top with boiling water. Soak for about an hour and a half give or take. Strain and dry to touch on a custom 4'x4' screen. This is how I do wheat, rye, oats, barley, and I'm thinking milo just needs an extra hour.

so after that soak all I would have to do is pressure sterilize? or is that before a boil? if just the soak, hell yeah, easy sounds good to me lol

Soak, dry, load, sterilize. You need to hydrate the grain, but then air dry it so that it is not wet to the touch. It should be shakeable. Wet grain will get overcooked and go mushy in the PC cycle. We're looking for a goldilocks kind of deal, just right.

Managed to get 6 clean Texan jars to colonize in the last 2 weeks now to see if they'll fruit in the cold weather once spawned. It's 3-6°C here at night and everything has stalled for the last month, I haven't been able to get anything to fruit or fully colonize tubs, just stall and I wait.

Did you receive your mail?
Mine just flushed again outdoors it's been roughly 12-15C, so a bit warmer, but still may give you hopes on a warmer day.

Thats an amazing video.
The force required to pop that manhole cover up like that is insane, I’m surprised they didn’t die from percussive injuries.

It's normally a month minimum to receive mail internationally to South Africa.

Just shook 2 of my four first attempt oat jars, the ones I wasn't overly proud of my sterile technique on. The time I will know if they are screwed is nigh

Did anyone say they didn't?
I remember when I was reading about thermobaric weapons, one of the worst parts about them was that the pressure wave was of such a nature that it was enough to shatter your body but not enough to render you unconscious so you had to lie there awake with your organs and lungs destroyed while you waited to die
