I'm in the glorious after glow of 3 grams of cubes and a big bowl of the finest weed my states medical program offers.
Honestly street weed tastes much better than this freeze dried stuff. I fit my old presto 21b in my new 75x just for fun.i feel like giving away the old presto just cause. Gotta check shipping at ups. Broke af this week though.
My wife finally got home and peeped the 75x sitting in the living room. I got in trouble Told her I didn't buy it and showed her she chilled out.

It takes three times as long to get my 75x going than it does to get my 921 going on my stove. However, it more than makes up for it with the amount of grain bags I can fit into it. The 75x was well worth the price with the amount of time it saves me.

Your stoves 8" burner is 2600 watts and the 75x is 1600 watts

I never thought about checking the specs on either. Good to know though and makes sense for what I was stating.

Given how long it took to boil water that seems pretty aQuote:

How does this look to you? GT variety. I'm thinking both lack of FAE and too little water in sub?
Quite a few tubs end up looking like this I'm unsatisfied by those fuzzy stems and all the small undeveloped fruits

Tall, skinny with tiny caps is typically a good indicator of low FAE.

Mini fridge froze at some point lost some cultures, not a big deal but lesson learned.
Not sure how it happened since I barely open it and don't have it set that cold but it was the plates closest to the cooling element, I probably overfilled it as well.
Anyhow, how do I stop this thing from freezing ever again? There's no freezer component which I figure'd would be enough but do I need to get an Inkbird for it or something? Would be nice if I could keep it at like a steady 35F without worrying about it.

I have a cheap fridge thermometer. I check it now again, as we must with everything in this hobby. It took a minute, but now it's dialed in at 33-34.

How long do you guys typically see wedges take to colonize a grain jar? Some are just nearing 30% at day 12, is this the norm?

After a handful of hours at work with my mind running on auto pilot it's obvious all these contamination issues are from the god damn SHIPs.
I tested to see if i cud hit it with the torch and all that eventually happens is that the top surface begins to melt. I wonder if that will work to sterilize with any decent degree of success.
Wuch'yall think of the odds?

I have never been a fan of ships but I did use them on my lc jar lids. I just don't trust them. I would pull out all of the lc in the same session and just store the lc's in the syringes until I was ready to use them. I would replace the ships before every new broth was made.

TL;DR: this nerd says it's a toss up, definitely better than nothing, but I think there are better ways to have a clean SHIP.
I was unable to find an answer about the instant-kill temperature for dry heat sterilization, but I found a couple time-temperature relationships here:
- 170°C (340°F) for 30 minutes,
- 160°C (320°F) for 60 minutes, and
- 150°C (300°F) for 150 minutes or longer depending up the volume.
We see the standard reaction rate rule applies and interpolate: it happens twice as fast for every 10°C increase. Since I believe silicone turns to a gummy mess (it does not melt) starting at around 300°C, the time should be 30*60/2**((300-170)/10) seconds, or 0.2 seconds. If your silicone turns gummy at 250°C (the lowest realistic temperature), the sterilization time is 7 seconds.
So you ask what are the chances? I'd say it's 50/50, all depending on how hot the silicone got. But I can give you a tip: the hotter the better, within reason. You want as fast heat transfer as possible, so you can superheat the top without damaging the rubber underneath.
Have you considered making a spoon or butter knife red hot and touching the top of the SHIP? (Only if you can make a very good connection with it.)
Have you considered flame sterilizing a very sharp box cutter or razor blade then shaving off the top of the SHIP?
Have you considered keeping foil over the SHIP at all times except when it's in use in the SAB, so few microbes ever fall onto it? Keep this small piece of foil on it all the time, starting before it's sterilized.

Interesting. Right on, Pear! I'll be trying some stuff with the ships along side a2g of jars from the same batches. Will be a nice experiment.

Feas, I know you're working in an SAB but any reason you are against free pouring?
Or I suppose you could crack the lid of the LC jar and carefully suck up what is needed with the syringe.
Forgive me if you have previously stated why you're against these options.

I don’t think ships would cause problems that consistent.
I just use silicone blobs over the holes on my lc and rarely have problems, and when I do I’m pretty sure it’s from inside the lc.
An occasional contamination I could see being from a ship but anything widespread or consistent has gotta be something else imo.
I’m curious if that fixes your problem though, worst case it’s one more possibility ruled out.
