Just let that fucker pop up before you start the 15 min timer and you'll be gtg. It's the last of the two plugs to pop up.

I thnk the implication is that if the valve assists in removing hot air, and if it pops up b4 the ten min mark after first "seeing, hearing, or fealing" steam, then ignore it and finish timing. As Nate and D3 jst pointed out, that part in quotes seems like it may be up for interpretation.
My process is in stone now and it is to wait ten min after the valve pops up to place the weight on. I cant see how shit wouldn't be correct at that point.
I jst modified my tubs with a patten of 1/4" holes on the short sides. Forgot where i saw that. They seem to be better maintaining microclimate now.

Yeah. If it's from improper sterilization then i thnk that has been eliminated. It probably wasnt from improper sterilization. Prolly from turd water lc.

First shoebox in maybe 1/2 a year. Struggled really bad with a crazy outbreak and this spawn was only thing that made it, wasn't pretty, just need prints.
This is my cold thing sitting on the basement floor we've had a heat wave but average temperatures have been mid-high 50's. Appears to be knotting but a bit sketchy. Started this 2 weeks ago and left it over field capacity and cold cold cold as I was out of town, once I got back I put right to fruiting and fanned (I never fan).

Iambrownbear said: I probably should have specified that I sterilize supplemented substrate bags. I have never tried to stetilize grain this way. I don't know if the material being sterilized makes a difference or not. Maybe I will throw a few grain bags in on the next run and see how they turn out.
I thought grain would turn to mush in a bubbas barrel or similar DIY set up?
I remember asking about this awhile back and was told to only run substrate in the atmospheric sterilizers.

Anybody know if you can pasteurize or sterilize in a dry oven or does it need to be pressurized with water vapor. Would something like a heat treat oven for metal work for large scale runs?

Dry heat will dry out and burn the grains.

Dry heat doth not sterilize like steam.

Yes it does, provided it gets to the material since it lacks the inherent penetration of pressurized steam. I oven sterilize my glass petri dishes for example and we flame sterilize our tools. It just dries out and burns organic material because that's what hot air do. Impossible to expose wet grain or coir to 250f hot air without drying out and scorching it.

Hey all, and especially p9
In answer toi the age-old question, "How's it hangin?"
22 cups of white millet [7 more jars plus the last cup for the jar in the freezer] in a paint strain bag hanging from the grab bar in the shower with a killer clamp
Shall I leave it soak until I get back from The Babe's tonight or can I leave it to drain in that until 10ish when I will jar it. Also, since this method assures that millet doesn't escape and make a big fucking mess, is the 20-minute recommended soak good or should I lengthen it for the large hanging mass.
Also, can the millet jars sit out on the counter from 5:00pm untiol 5 am or does that fuck the TEK?
If you got a link to this via PM, please forgive me, but I need to address this before I bugout for her dugout.
As ever,
TIYA

Drying time isn't necessary, you can load right away or let it sit overnight if you want, either is good. That's just what I do and I'm a stickler for detail. I let it sit for 20 mins to drain because I'm busy prepping my work area, jars, etc.
Don't overthink it, brother.

'overthinking' could be one of my names. then again at $2/lb there's more riding on getting it right than for oats at 30ȼ/lb.
I have deep gratitude.
If I don't provide dinner it will be sad times. I'll let it hang til I get home and then jar it to PC in the AM. Meanwhile I can defrost the 2 jars in the freezer.
Thanks again.
