Yeah, the little hats are normal and the fuzz would be as well. Looks like your getting enough FAE since the feet aren't all fuzzed up as well. The discoloration is spores, spore drops will create the prettiest art.

God fucking damnit I'm having a rough time with this shit😡😡 All my life I've been cooling down the scalpel after flaming red hot and now these days I'm getting this bacteria on the same slit on the agar (the pattern of the cut of the blade). Now it makes me thing all my entire life Ive been carrying with this shit and realized it these days right when started I changing to more clear recipes What should I do to fix this? I'm pcing the agar 30 mins at 20psi and making really sure the blade is red hot before inoculating or transferring. Literally half of my agar sessions I'm with the arm up sterilizing the blade waiting for the blade at least five secs being red so this shit is getting me frustrated a lot 😡
i cool my scalpel off in the plate im transferring from not the new plate i dont see why you would do that

I've been on the wheat train lately as well. Easy to break up and quick colonization. If I think ahead of time, I'll use millet for my masters and wheat for my receiving jars.

I learned oats first, got the prep down solid, and have GW plates how i like'em. I'm just too much of a creature of habit to change all that now.

The new/receiving plate is more likely to be sterile.

Oats is all I've ever used but I'd love to branch out eventually. But like Lt said - im too comfortable w my oat prep to switch things up i do like the idea of a smaller grain however like wbs for master jars - more noc points

Thanks, you have been a lifesaver. I have 8 quarts of dry fruits and the shoeboxes are still giving. I them tek upside down. put the sub in my hand and pluck the side shrooms. Whee.
Of too the band now with 3.9 g each of malabar.
See you guys later.

I just ordered 20-pounds of white millet. Company sold rye grass seed, but no wheat. Eh, one new grain at a time. I'll probably drop a wedge in three prepped oats and shoebox till the millet gets here. Plan to pour Josex' Poke LC into the millet.
Hmm, how long do sterilized, unoponed oat jars keep in room temp?
Here's a fun thing. I have some pucks going. This is the strangest malabar fruit I've seen:

so you open both plates at the same time to make your transfers? that makes no sense to me, you can visually see and tell where contams are on a plate, if you cool it off to the side of a clean culture right before picking up your wedge thats the least amount of movement and safest way IMO. i just couldnt see myself cooling my scalpel in my recieving plate. is it just me or does that sound off?

Thanks for the response, unfortunately my fears were right. Got home and the casing layer was lime green. I used two bags of uncle bens in a shoe box but I also think I may have spawned to bulk CVG too soon. It looked good but when I opened the bag but had small uncolonised sections and it kinda smelt a little fermented/ yeasty like dough.
Now I’ve sprayed with peroxide and left it outside. Hoping for a miracle but it’s probably a lost cause.

Thanks I need all the luck I can get. I’ve done pop corn tek and all looked good and then went green just as I was about to spawn.
Then I tried wild bird seed with the same result.
Finally I tried rice bags but I’m starting to think I’ve got bad LC or my house is tainted with mold. Followed all the steps religiously and used a still air box. Still keep getting the greens 🤢

I'm all for whatever works for you, everyone has a different environment.
But for me, I open each just enough to get a scalpel in/out, like a clamshell, one at a time.

No I didn’t use agar, just bought liquid culture syringes online from what looked like a reputable vendor but might be the problem.

I did 90 minutes but my PC only goes up to 11psi. I’ve been seeing some posts saying I should rather go for two hours.
My last run was with uncle bens and obviously no pressure cooker.
I’m also doing the bucket Tek for my substrate but consistently end up with green mold.
