I wonder if some of you realize how privileged you are to be able to order flowhoods, pressure cookers, dehydrator, etc
I literally pay 10x what most people pay here for everything, fine I can get cheap coir and grain but everything is so expensive it hurts to read some of the threads here.

I can absolutely relate. On the other hand, this kind of hardships really serve to sharpen your skills and get creative.
Worst of all here is the grain I have access to, it's really bad.

Does yeti usually hit that hard? I’ve had it on plates forever.
I think a few of us should get together and start an affordable international cult supply company. It’s still so weird to me that PCs are basically a North American thing.

You guys will laugh but I currently use a 9L pc. Lots of work but we make do. I'm still damn annoyed that I gave away my hepa years ago.

Dude I used an instant pot that could only cook one quart at a time for like 8 months. Sterile grain was like gold to me
Definitely helped make sure I took every possible precaution when knocking one up.
Then I finally accepted that I was way beyond “just gonna grow a few ounces” and needed to buy real stuff.

Yeh, I've been using this pc for years. At this stage I have no choice but to keep the finance at hobby level despite growing a tad more than hobby level 😅
Real stuff is just ridiculously expensive here. Bod commented a while back about a dehydrator being a minimum, I've grown mush for 20 years now and still never had a dehydrator because they're just not even remotely affordable here.

I just priced out a pressure cooker with freight forwarding to South Africa and found it is indeed in the neighborhood of 4.5x as expensive as an order within China. On the other hand, it's not a lot more expensive than a US brand. I suggest you investigate that course. Get comfortable with Google Translate. Message me if you need pointers, after you've found a company that handle the international aspects of this process.
Taobao has such massive selection and low prices that there are tons of companies that exist solely to facilitate orders, or just to facilitate delivery. If I lived in the US I'd consider buying American, but it makes no sense for me. (p.s., When I do order from the US, a freight forwarding company is usually cheaper than international delivery. Faster, too.)
I don't use a dehydrator, either. My convection oven is fine if I'm really careful not to set it too hot.

Derralyd have you thought about building a steamer? You could automate it and make a smaller one even. It would probably be just as much for all the fittings and hardware and what not as youde pay for a pc,and I'm sure you could find a steel vessel.

How much is shipping to SA? I got my Presto 23 Quart for 220 USD including customs and shipping.
Still use my 10 liter PC for Agar and LC. Fuck waiting 40 minutes just to get to 15 PSI.

I bought my first series I from FP for about that much, it's not cheap here in Canada either so don't feel too bad, especially for hood materials. I'm sure someone here could help you with purchasing and shipping.
On another note: I wish we had a stickied compendium of mycological nomenclature for people to reference, especially noobs.
I posted this in another thread but I'll post it here as well for those of you interested in some mush cult history:

Build a low pressure steamer and a propane powered dehydrator. My dehydro is propane powered and works waaaay better than my old electric units.

They were just not as crunchy as usual because I had them in the basement in a baggie where it’s pretty humid. They kinda fucked up my stomach gave me diarrhea and vomited a little. But it could have also been from eating a bunch of greasy food on an empty stomach, then taking them, then napping. I woke up from my nap mid trip and felt like I was dying
