Is APEU and Yeti equally prone to reverts? Both of them got me normal looking fruits.
Some of my plates took a month to germinate 😄

How old were those spores that took a month to germinate? I have had some 4+ year old spores take that long. If the spores were relatively fresh, I would say it was your agar recipe. Perhaps you didn't have enough nutrition or your agar was too firm?

I don't know. They were pans, but not labeled with a date.

I swiped a swab of cracks apes yesterday, will know soon enough what comes from the swabs.
Did some work last night with all the new spores that came in from you amazing people; tat, ape , aa+, twc, toc, rusty whytes, pe, Burma and testing my PR lc on agar before transferring. Inoculated some grain soak lc as well as making up 20 or so grain soak agar plates, surprised how clear they are .

Does anyone else vacuum or clean their large strainer very well between batches of grain?
I have this fear that a piece of dried grain, if left on the strainer between grain prep and mixed in with new grain that's drying, will not sterilize properly and therefore cause some fuckery in my bags.
Feel free to let me know if i'm the only one.

After months of getting hardly any luck with working with agar, im going to try adding yeast as I've read some success stories on here.
Couple questions;
1) Most nutritional yeast ive looked at comes with B12 added. Would this help / hinder agar work, or neutral?
2) Any recommended tried and tested recipes/ratios for LME with added yeast that could help move towards rhizo / faster growth?
Thanks

Hey king.
1. I'm going to anecdotally say no, as i've only had positive outcomes since adding yeast.
2. A good recipe would be as follows:
15g LME 10g agar 1g yeast 500ml distilled water
Bragg nutritional yeast works great.

That recipe is 50% higher sugar content than standard MEA which is 10 grams Malt per 500 ml.

Nah I mix dried grain in with prepped all the time. As long as you cook it long enough you’ll be fine. No prep is completely dry grain and those have been some of my best jars.

What bag size should I go for using with spawn? What do you people recommend?
I would fit about 4qt of grain maximum per bag
I was recommended 8" x 5" x 19" type 14A unicorn. Is it adequate or should I go a little smaller?
I worried ablut handling it in a SAB and also fitting in my small 6qt pressure cooker

I think most people go with the 3T bags which is the same size but 0.2 micron filter instead of 0.5.

Depends how much spawn you’re after too.
Like he said 3t are the most common. I’ve got some monster bags for 15lb blocks that could probably hold 20qts lol. They’re good for prepping sub and casing though.

3t are what everyone's using mostly, but did you know that the smaller size bags have thicker plastic? And you can fit a little more in your cooker with them if you wanted to because the more squared size allows for less wasted space via more bags.
The 4T bags are 4x3 footprint 3mil The 10T bags are 5x4 footprint 3mil The 3T bags are 8x5 footprint 2.2mil
The smaller bags are a little more pricey too.

I buy my bags from myers. I just checked the 10T bags. I have been ordering the 3T 300 at a time. I would actually save $5 on the 10T. I am just questioning your logic on less wasted space in the pc, sandman. In my mind, 3 quarts in any of those size bags should take up the same volume or space. 1 qt is 57.75 cubic inches no matter how you fold it.

First of all how dare you.
Lol jk heres my autistic I mean artistic rendition that illustrates the small amount of space that could be gained. Now the actual space gained would depend on your cooker size and how the bigger bags fit of course.

Now I like to leave some space in between my bags I don't like having it all mashed in. There needs to be space for steam to penetrate and circulate heat up in there you know. Plus I like the bags to be nice and straight so easy to seal and all. I know some of yall stuff it as much as possible.

Lmao at 1 bag spawning 4-5 tubs. I'm sure there's a reason people don't use those for spawn but sounds like a funny thing to give a whirl. I've been meaning to do a no pour in one of those wide 8 oz deli containers to get a culture that's like 4.5 inches across just for shits n giggles.
On a different note, any one have tips for the most efficient way to process lots of grain, specifically WBS, in a small space? I've been doing it Fooman's way so far with my 2 over the sink strainers being able to hold just enough for 10 jars a piece, but now that I'm gonna be doing mostly bags, that method wouldn't be very efficient cause if I'm tryna prep grain I want to prep as much as I need to fill both presto's at once.
12 hour cold soak in 5 gallon buckets seems like my best bet right now, but I'm still not sure how to best strain/dry that much grain in a pretty small kitchen sink. A custom strainer doesn't really make sense cause the sink is small, big ass strainer over a small sink would just be a mess. Maybe brewer's bags? I saw someone post a cool mesh bag for grain straining a while ago but I think the product they were using isn't sold anymore.

I use a 2'x3' window screen over my bath tub to strain and dry my grain. A 2x3 window screen will hold up to 20 qts of grain at a time.

If I can get the window screen to stay securely on my bathtub that'd be perfect, thanks.
And Drboomer, are those durable/reusable? I read the beer grain bags can only be used once or twice but I love the idea of just being able to pull out the whole bag once done soaking instead of pouring it onto a strainer or somethin.
